I've been looking for a pristine P&R Model 57 in nickel with an 8-3/8" tube, and have been unsuccessful. So, I have been considering sending one of my blue Model 57s up to Smith & Wesson and asking them to refinish the revolver in factory nickel.

Does anyone have any experience with the factory re a nickel refinishing job? What else might experienced S&W aficionados recommend? I don't care about the collector value of the blued gun I am thinking of having refinished. I'm merely seeking recommendations as to the quality of the job I can expect from S&W, or, other options that experienced forum members may have.

Thanks!

There seem to be more 8-3/8 nickel 57's on Gunbroker than you can shake a stick at. I suspect what you'd pay for a refinish job would buy a big chunk of one of those.

EPJ,

Actually, the factory charges what I think is a reasonable $220 for a complete high polish nickel refinishing job. That, plus is cost of the revolver, is a lot less than the ones I've seen on GB, which on inspection, typically have flaws. There is one there now with severe freckling that has a bid of over $800.00. For the same money (cost of gun + refinishing) I can have one that looks totally new and crisp. Thanks for your guidance. Another lister wrote to me and highly recommended the factory job.
