S&W Grip Question

Hi:
Years past I recall that S&W Revolver Grips had the serial number stamped in one of the inside grip panels.
Also some had the serial number written instead of stamped with a pencil (?).
What era was this?

Jimmy,

This went out in the era that S&W called them "Stocks" I had a dear friend that worked in the Stocking Department. Years went by until I figured out he wasn't stocking shelves...but making the handgun "Grips"...

To answer your question, guess it depends on which frame size you are actually talking about.
