I really like my .22. Accurate and cheap to shoot. But I have this thing for any hardware billboards. Is there a way to clean off the white lettering all over this piece without hurting the finish?

My thanks

Glad to hear that you like the weapon. I've been looking at one. No good ideas on your question.

The slide is anodized black and the white letters are pad printed using who knows what for paint/ink. That white lettering is some tough stuff to say the least. I've tried every chemical in the garage and local hardware store to remove it. Mineral Spirits, Acetone, Lacquer Thinner, Methyl Ethyl Ketone. Nothing even came close.

So, after a bit of research to make sure anodized aluminum is paint compatible, out came the rattle-can:

That was back in June of this year. I've since replaced the sights and removed the thumb safety levers. I shoot this gun a lot and the paint has held up very well. I could not tell the difference between the anodized black and the flat black BBQ paint. To clean it, I wipe it down with Breakfree and it looks as good as new.

This kind of thing is not for everybody, but I'm happy with it and would do it again in a heartbeat. :D

Thanks, you sure did pull out the stops for solvents(even MEK!)

I never thought to paint it. Maybe my friend could work something out. He did this for me:

Nah, one in my safe is enough!

That's pretty cool. :D

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the factory plastic safety levers with metal ones one the M&P.22?
