S&W Mod 10-6 357 Magnum NYSP

I am trying to identify if my 357 mag is in fact a NYSP model. The serial numbers is D709720, Model 10-6, 4 inch barrell, 3/8 inch wide checkered hammer, 3/8" wide smooth trigger, 1.67 inch recessed cylinder. The right side of the barrel is marked "S&W 357 Magnum" the left side is marked "Smith & Wesson" Any information of this gun and possibly the value would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Your SN puts it about 74 to 75. The NYSP model 10 guns guns were in 1972.
The NYSP guns also had a sand blast type blue finish. Your finish looks a little too shiny. Plus the NYSP guns had a notched front sight.

I leaning on no.

I wonder if it left the factory in its current configuration.

There were some model 10s made in .357 Magnum, including a bunch for the NY State Police, before the Model 13 came about.

To add, the 357 magnum Model 10s were essentially the prototype for the Model 13. Created by customer demand and continued as the Model 13 because of customer demand.

I have D707325, which is a confirmed NYSP revolver. So, maybe. But you would have to get Roy or Don to do a records search to be certain.

357 NY State Police model Value?

I received my letter from Smith & Wesson today. It states this 357 is indeed a New York State Police model, basically a forunner to the model 13. Can anyone tell me about what it is worth? Attached is a scan of the letter from S&W.

About a year ago I was fortunate to win an auction from woodlawn boys for an NYSP 10-6 .357 revolver with matching grips and original box. It came to me in pristine condition. Another piece of Smith and Wesson law enforcement history!

All of the Model 10-6 NYSP .357 Magnum guns I have seen were the standard S&W blue finish.

Great find GM! During the same era, S&W was also shipping 64-1's chambered in .357 for law enforcement. I was able to snatch one up at auction mis-labled as a .38. This one shipped to Lansing Public Safety.

Im sure that with all of the color photos I sent them, if the gun had been altered, they would have said something. They described how it left the factory, and State in fact It is a NYPD revolver.

As between an auction site and the factory records, I trust factory records. Your own letter says blue, not matte blue, and it says New York State Police (NYSP), not New York City Police Department (NYPD).
