S&W Model 10-5 with 3 inch Skinny Barrel ?

I am looking at possibly purchasing what I am told is a Model 10-5 with a 3 inch "skinny" or regular profile barrel.

Serial number shows 1964 production.

All the other 3 inch K frames I seen appear to be heavy barrel types.

I have attached a photo. It's not great, is it a 4 inch wrongly measured?

That sure looks like a 4" barrel to me.

Barrels are measured from the front of the cylinder to the end of the barrel. Some folks don't know that.

Yep, that's a 4".
Now, there are 3" standard barrel Model 10s out there: the returns from the Victoria, Australia Police arsenal that were surplussed a few years ago. They also have a square grip. Several places, including Bud's, were selling them at a pretty good price.

Model 10-5 was available with 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 inch barrel. All are the standard barrel profile. The Model 10-6 is the heavy barrel configuration and they were built concurrently.

As others said that one is a 4incher. A friend on mine had a 3 inch standard barrel in the early 1980s. He told me he bought off his Security Chief who was a retired FBI Agent. The model 10 was the Agent's duty weapon.

visual queue: 3 inch barrels end about where the lug ends. That is why that "looks" like a 4 incher!

My 10-5 with 2" barrel is the heavy barrel.

+1. Yup, I've got mine. I really love my J Frames but my 3" Model 10-5 would be what I wish I was carrying if I really needed it.
