Hello friends

I did a quick search and couldn’t find anything on this topic. I might have missed a thread, but only found inconclusive info on this wonderful forum.

I have a Model 101 that was carried by my grandfather (police chief/ FBI)

Was this bored for .357 by custom shop? Is it a 10-1 missing a space and dash mark? The internet has me running in circle so I will put it to the experts.

Thank you

Can post pictures at a later date (up north with poor connectivity)

S&W never had a Model No. 101, so I would assume it is a 10-1 where the "-" just didn't show. Not entirely uncommon. If it is a 10-1 it would only be a 38 Special, and not a .357. If it does take .357's, it would have been bored out by someone outside the factory, and the cylinder may not be heat treated sufficiently to handle the pressures of a .357 Magnum. I would not attempt to fire full house .357's in it.

Post pictures and list the S/N from the bottom of the grip frame for a definite answer.

I have a model 10-1 that is stamped 101

Mine is a 4" heavy barrel.

There's probably a whole run of them out there.

I just brought one home. On the butt, it's stamped "PPD nnnnn". I live in Phoenix, I assume this was an old Phoenix Police Dept. service revolver.

Clang, mine looks to be the same as yours, with the heavy barrel. This gun may have some cool history. I wonder if the PDD can tell me anything about it, assuming it was in fact one of theirs.
