Howdy,

I started this thread several days ago and got responses but I cannot open them. Trying again. Sorry

I just noticed the S&W Catalog is no longer listing the Model 18-7 .22lr. Classic. I hope it's not true as this is a fine revolver. Has anyone heard anything about it?

Thank you

S&W Model 18-7 22LR

This gun was sold as a "Combat Masterpiece" I bought one on Feb. 1, 2012 The cylinder was hitting the frame and draging on it when the cylinder was open. When you loaded the gun and closed the cylinder the shells would drag on front side of rear frame. Sent gun back to S&W Five (5) times. The last time on May 10 I received the gun back from S&W with a letter stating, Quote "The handgun has been reviewed by our revolver technicians and found to be within our manufacturing specifications. The cylinder will touch the frame when the cylinder is opened. The handgun was also function tested and met all of our manufacturing standards. No repaires have been performed to the handgun." So if it has been taken off the market, then this is a good thing for future customers.

That's a shame because the Model 18 is such a great revolver.

The older non lock versions are much better quality than the new ones.

S&W model 18-7

Mag318 I agree with you. One of the Customer Rep's at S&W also told me, when I was trying to get my gun repaired, that the new guns with the internal lock were not as good and had no collector value. So I have one for sale, but can't afford the loss I would have to take.

While the Model 18 went through the same revisonal changes as the 17 the 4 and 5 screw pre 18's dont pop up for sale nearly as often as their long tube twins.
Good news is the 18-3 and 18-4 are still fairly common on the auction sites as is an occasional 18-2.

The 18 line sorta ended in 1985 with the 18-4 (far right),
It was replaced with a 4" version of the 17-5 HB (2nd from right) which was replaced by the full underlug 17-6 (2nd from left) which was replaced by the 617 (far left).

Except for the grips current 18's do not have interchangeable parts with older versions as far as I know which kinda makes them a different gun.

I have never owned or fired a new one so cannot offer an opinion but I do have a few older versions and they are all well built revolvers.

18-7

I have one.It went back for a poi problem-it is now one of my favorites. In fact,I like shooting it more than my 18-3,as I like target features and the gold bead front sight that went on back at the factory.Old style combat grips replaced the originals.Just as smooth as the old one.I didn't buy it as a collectible or with the next guy in mind..
