Model24-3 3"

My Model 24-3 3" bought in the Dallas TX area is AEM10xx. Because of an unknown leak in the dishwasher draintube that was slightly punctured and dripped into the box in the basement that held all of my pistol boxes. For some reason the 24-3's box was missplaced later found and is still extant. All other boxes were paper machet.
End of relevant info.
As a new poster (I will add to my background in my profile soon). I will give a quick summary of the other Smiths I own:
581 4" sn AAA39xx, 19-2 2.5" sn 3k92xx, 49 dashless 1 7/8"sn ABH45xx, and my fave of faves the 25-2 6.5" sn N8459xx. I had a 13 3" that I loaned to my sister and never saw again (she didn't know what happened to it). It was my second favorite revolver (The 25 will always be my fave). All but the 19-2 were bought new.
I appreciate the quality of the post I have read and the useful information received.

-3 and -4 differences

Does anyone know the differences between the 24-3 and 24-4, off hand? From the pictures it appears the -3s are where S&W stopped pinning the barrels and stopped counter boring the chambers.

None of the Models 24 had counterbored cylinders. Only Magnum calibers and .22's were counterbored.

For the most part, N frames ceased having pinned barrels after the -2 engineering level. The -3's ushered in the non-pinned, non-counterbored revolvers.

I own a Model 24-3, made in 1984, and it has a pinned barrel. However, others made around the same time, and similar serial numbers are not pinned. With S&W, never say never.
