Manufactured in 1975, at the same time the model 36 and 13 issued the Finnish police service weapon selection.
The history of the revolver is unknown.

An old Finnish police holster, used by model 36 3"

What could be the price of this 36-1 in the USA?

I have a 36-1 3" barrel shoots very good at 15yds. I enjoy it very much. not much recoil either.

That is a really nice revolver you have acquired. I have a 3" 36-1 that I bought about eight years ago for the princely sum of $500 which I agreed to since the seller delivered it to me 150 miles from his home. I would consider it quite a bit more currently. :) It came with everything pictured.

Howdy S&WshooterFIN,

Nice pair of Chiefs you have.

Your second one isn't a 36-1, it's a Model 36, just as the stamping on the frame says.

S&W introduced the Model 36-1 in 1966 as a new model number, not a "replacement" number due to an engineering change.

According to S&W Historian Dr. Roy Jinks, "Model 36-1 is the model number for the 3-inch Heavy Barrel Chiefs Special."

S&W concurrently made the 2" and 3" Model 36 Chiefs with lightweight barrels and the 3" Model 36-1 Chiefs with a Heavy Barrel until 1976. That year S&W deleted the 3" lightweight barrel and continued to make the 2" Model 36 and 3" Model 36-1 till 1988 when the Model 36 became the 2" Model 36-2 and the Model 36-1 became the 3" Model 36-3. (There is at least one known abnormality of a Model 36-2 or 36-3 with the incorrect barrel length, but it is in an overseas market.)

Hope this helps.
