S&W Model 36 no dash

I have a S & W model 36 in Nickle finish 1 7/8" Barrel serial number J849XXX
Looking for any info on it Thanks in advance

Based upon serial number, my guess would be that it shipped in 1981.
If you have the box, please post a picture of the end label. We also very much like pictures here. Show us what you can of the Mod. 36, and will give more comment based upon what we see.

I agree with John. More specifically S&W might have shipped it in the summer of '81.

Here are a few questions that stem from transitioning changes during that era:

1) is the barrel pinned?

2) if it has the original grips, is the inside of the right one stamped with the serial number (- the J)?
