S&W Model 36

Hello all from a new member,
I presently own a Model 19-3 which I purchased new in 1977 and have kept really good care of it. I also recently purchased a Model 36 at my brother's gun store in Nashville, TN. He purchased this 36 snubbie from someone whose grandfather had died. It is in excellent condition. It is simply stamped Mod 36 in the crane, no dash, thus I believe this was made after 1957 but before any modifications or updates. The serial number from the butt is stamped, J77361. I would appreciate any help with tracing its history. Thanks!

Your off alittle. His serial number has only 5 digits after the J, not six. That makes it '69-'70.

Thanks guys for the response. It helps to narrow down the age of the revolver. My brother was able to learn very little of the history from the family of the deceased grandfather except that he kept it in the drawer of his bedside table. It is in great condition. I am glad to own and keep care of it.
