hi all,i was wondering if anyone could help me with some info on a model 41 pistol. heres what i have: smith and wesson model 41 22lr automatic pistol.it has a 51/2" barrell.it is is used in the original box with the paperwork.the gun is in very good condition and has never been altered in any way.the date of manufacture is february of 1981.my father had bought this gun brand new back then and used it only occasionally for target shooting.the last time it was used was probobly 15-20 years ago and was cleaned and stored in the original box since then in a gun safe.my questions are these:1.)does anyone know what this gun cost new back then? 2.)does anyone know the approximate value of this gun now?(i would rate it at an 8.5 out of 10 on condition) 3.)i live in tucson, arizona how would i go about selling or possibly trading this gun if i chose to do so,and what is a reasonable price to ask for it? appreciate any help or extra info i can get here.thanks.

A picture would sure help us as well as a Partial Serial number, I am assuming it starts with Axxxxxx. Also, condition is everything. Prices can vary quite a bit from 90% condition, to 95%, to 98%, etc.

Lots of great folks here to help though!

There are several currently listed on gunbroker.com. If you take the time to "join" (it's free), you can go back a couple of months in the archives. It's the selling price that counts otmthe listing price, and gunbroker prices are probably a littleon the high side. For sure, a gunshop or pawnshop would give you about half of the current market value. Some shops will sell your pistol on consignment for a 20% (or whatever) cut.

Your father's pistol? I'd think long and hard before I would let it go. You may regret it later. Just my opinion.

In Massachusetts.

The S&W Model 41 brand new sold for $585.00 in 1992.

PS You shouldn't sell Dad's gun.

The S & W Model 41 sold for $214 in 1978, yes, two hundred and fourteen dollars. :D

Not that you should sell it but listing in this forum classified will likely provide quick results. The current Blue Book is around $700 but there are regional variations and prices are going up.

My father passed over 40 years ago...I sold his guns back then. Wish I had them now!!! Just a thought. Best Regards, Skip48 :)
