S&W model 5906 9x19

I have been shooting with various Glock semi-automatics since the mid-1990s.
This S&W 5906 is the first semi-auto besides Glocks that I like.
S&W tubberwares will never enter my safe.
My tubberware safe is only for Glocks

Most likely early 1989 but easy to check if you email question to SW at [email protected] with model and full s/n

I sent a email query and now I'm waiting for a response. Christmas and the holidays are almost over, then it's time to go to the shooting range again

I've been trying to find mounting parts for a Red Dot sight, but I can't find a ready-made base anywhere that fits in the rear sight slot.
I guess I'll have to talk to a gunsmith?

I found another suitable holster in my holster collection.
Gould & Goodrich B730 G19, Presumably a Glock G19 holster. I bought it in 1997 in Haifa, Israel, for my then duty pistol, a Sig P226.

The answer came quickly:

Year 1997 SKU 108170. Nice looking 59 series by the way[/quote]

I found another retro holster. The holster is from the 1990s, Hellweg 16AX. It was made for the FN Browning HPDA pistol, one of pistol used by the Finnish Defense Forces.
I have modified the holster to fit a Glock G17.

Recoil spring for 5906

I respectfully disagree with the idea that there should be no concern about a recoil spring in an all-steel/stainless pistol. Weak recoil springs lead to battering of the receiver, which can cause cracks in the receiver. A cracked receiver can be difficult and expensive to repair and sometimes impossible to repair.

Exactly! Spend a few dollars now to avoid hammering your frame and potentially ruining your pistol. It's a no brainer.

I found a spring from Finland. Old stock from the 1990s

Glad it worked out for you! Otherwise, I was thinking you could contact one of the spring manufacturers and ask if that specific spring is also used in a non-firearm industry, and then buy the spring from that company. Importing a gun spring may not be allowed, but an automotive spring, no problem!

Not sure if that's kosher; just trying to think outside the box.

What kind of money?

My brother and I got ours for $300 USD about 18 years ago from CDNN but I see these have now dried up as to anyone having a large amount to sell. I shot mine in 3 gun for many years and I am the only person I saw shooting 5900 series in that sport except for 1 guy shooting a 5903 who competed in 1 match.

I need to take the G17 and 5906 to test at 25m range sometime.
My best competition result was shooting the FN HPDA 99 points / 10 shots at 25m. I won the championship of our regiment.
I have certainly shot the most G17 of all the 9x19 models I have ever shot, but for some reason the 5906 just feels good.
I need to test it out at an IDPA competition sometime.
When I saw the 5906 at auction, I wasn't going to buy it. I was thinking of buying an FN HP/HPDA or a 1911, but the 5906 came home.

"For a red-dot light base compatible with the Smith & Wesson 5906, several options are available on the market. Here's what you might consider:

"Custom Mounts: Companies like BME Mounts have been known to create custom mounts for the 5906 that can fit micro reflex sights. These mounts typically replace the rear sight and can be made to fit specific red dot sights like the Burris FastFire II.
Dovetail Mounts: Some manufacturers offer dovetail mounts that work with the 5906's existing sight system. For instance, Dawson Precision offers sights, but not explicitly red dot bases, though you might find third-party solutions that use similar principles.

"EGW (Evolution Gun Works): They have mounts that are compatible with S&W models, specifically mentioning that certain 1911 fixed sight mounts could work with the 5906 due to the similar sight cut. Look for something like the #49530 for the RMR.

"Aftermarket Solutions: On platforms like eBay, there are listings for micro red dot sight mount bases for S&W pistols, including the SD40VE, which might fit with some minor modifications or might directly work with the 5906's dovetail.

"Gunsmithing: If you're looking for a more tailored fit, some opt for gunsmith services to mill the slide for a direct red dot installation. This is more permanent but ensures a perfect fit and potentially better accuracy.

"Remember, when installing any new sight or mount, it's essential to ensure the fit is correct to avoid any issues with zeroing or stability. Some mounts might require slight modifications or professional fitting due to variations in slide cuts among individual firearms.

"If you decide to proceed, consider checking the compatibility of any red dot you plan to use with these bases since not all red dots will fit all mounts without adapter plates or specific screws. Also, bear in mind that some of these solutions might require a bit of patience as lead times could be significant."
