Can anyone tell me if the 22 caliber model 617 was ever made with a target trigger, target hammer and target stocks and which dash numbers and year of manufacture are these?
About 5 or 6 years ago I sold a 617 which I owned for several years but I seem to recall that the trigger and hammer weren't full target size.
I am hoping to get a 617 again in the near future and I have a preference for the target triggers and hammers.
As always any help appreciated.

I don't know about the years and stuff you want, but if you get a 617, you can get a target hammer and trigger and put them in. I put a target hammer in my 617-6. Works well. The MIM parts require a minimum of fitting.

I'm not certain of the dash number, but yes, they were available, as I once had one. Unfortunately I sold it. IT was a 6in barrel version. I bought it new probably between 1996 to 1999.

This 17-6 has a full target hammer and target trigger.

I purchased a stainless one with a six inch barrel, grooved wide target trigger, wide spur target hammer and square butt with wood finger groove grips. Under the grips the frame is grooved front and back as well. Model 617, no dash anything. I got it in March of 1990 and it had just come out on the market in the area where I lived.

I still have it and it it a great shooter.

In the S & W book the serial number range does not seem to match with anything listed. It is the three letter and four number combo but is not listed. There are numbers above and below but not the same as my serial number.

Hope this helps!

Brownell's, but it may be easier to get them from the factory.

yes, but I think it is only the 617 dash nothing, I have both a 6" and 8 3/8" like this.

Thanks for the comments so far, looks like I will be hunting for a 617 no dash with an
8 3/8" barrel. I always prefered those earlier models with the square butt and flash chromed hammers and trigers.

While doing your search don't overlook the model 17s. I have a 17-5 8 3/8" with target hammer, trigger, and grips, and it is a superb shooter. You might also appreciate the fact that the 17-5, unlike the 617, is not fully underlugged. At 8 3/8" the extra weight of the full underlug is considerable.
