I have a 629-1 it's a great weapon that I bought in the mid to late 80's. I've seen 5" underlug barrel and an unfluted cylinder available at Midway USA. I believe these are for 629-5 or 629-6. Will these work with the model 629-1

I have the 629-6 with the 5" full underlug and unfluted cylinder. It shoots very very nice. Yes, it has the *****lock, but it does not bother me at all. IMHO, maybe look for a used -6 and leave the -1 the way it is. Quite expensive to change out the cylinder and barrel.

Your 629-1 pre-dates the "endurance package" of all the 629-2E and later guns. You also have a different style of ejector star that is held in place by two indexing pins. Your cylinder stop notches and cylinder stop are cut much shorter than on the later guns. There are other changes and variances on tolerances as well.

The later parts are typically not compatible with your gun. But check with a skilled gunsmith that specialized in wheelguns, about what IS available to upgrade or customize your gun with.

IMO, upgrading your gun will be expensive but will not add resale value. If done poorly it could detract from the value. For just a bit more than upgrading you could have two guns.

I would leave it completely original and just lube it with moly. I put moly on the cylinder indexing star too. I would pick up another m29.
