S&W model 66 question

I have a Model 66-2 stainless and 357 mag with 6 in barrell I bought new in Feb 1985 thinking about selling wondering how much is worth. Still in original box with tools etc unopened. Fired maybe 6 rounds. Looks brand new???

One of the last of the recent short barreled 66's produced - the PC 66 Carry Comp. Fun to shoot and very accurate.

I have only been a voyer of this site for some time so I thought I would let you know that century arms int. just recieved and shipment in of 4 in model 66 police turn ins not to bad of a price but more than i paid for mine a year ago. The salesman didnt have much info on them and I could not find them on their website. Also J and G sales have a new shipment of model 10 turn ins some doa some not great price mine is on the way.

The last runs of the 66 ('02 on - the 66-6) had the IL. Although dropped from the '02 catalog, a TX closeout dealer got a batch of 6" 66-6's made 1/'03 and sold them for $349 new - I got one 9/03. What a bargain - what a keeper! My first .357 Magnum - ever - never touched one before it arrived. It is the proverbial 'tack driver' - with specials or wimpy Magnums. My .357 magnum revolvers have seen exclusively light, mainly .38-ish, loads in .357 brass. My massive 66 collection:

The last run of the 4" 66 was sold side by side with it's replacement - the 620 - at my pusher's. It even had the two-piece barrel! The 620 that replaced the 4" 66 actually is an L-frame - for all the world simply a 686+ frame, grip, and and 7-shot cylinder - with a two-piece and partially lugged 4" barrel, so it will resemble the 66 it replaced. It weighs 36.9 oz, despite it's larger frame and cylinder, which has that extra hole, and nearly the same as the 4" 66 (37 oz!). With the same grips, the 620 should be indistinguishable from a 4" 66 - except for it's seventh shot. Of course, the 619 similarly replaced the 4" 65. The 619 & 620 initially came with what looked like both a SS or hard-flash-chromed hammer and trigger. They may have since changed, but they are still silver on the '09 catalog's 620.

I've had one with RB and 2 1/2 inch for a few years now. It's a favorite carry gun and saves wear on it's sister a Model 19 2 1/2 inch in nickle.

The closest thing to a 66 I know of is a Model 686 2 1/2 inch and mine is a plus model giving one extra round. A little bigger than a 66 being an L frame but a nice carry gun too.
