I have a nice condition pistol that could really use a nice clean and polish of the stainless steel finish.

Can anyone recommend someone to do the work?

I think you may find you can successfully self-perform this task.

Nope, I would much rather pay someone who knows what they are doing.

Nope, looking for someone who can completely break her down and knows how to use a polishing wheel.

Break down too...then definitely a smith wherever you're located or check online to ship to qualified cleaner/polisher

I'm in NJ. Gunsmiths don't exist!! LOL

Does S&W do the work?

I picked up another 65 yesterday. The finish reminds me of an old Armalloy gun. I am thinking of taking a scotchbrite pad to bring back a more original SS finish. My question is which pads? Secondly how long will this take? Not wanting to spend the next 6 months on this.

Go to your local Home Depot or Lowe's and check their paint dept for grey Scotchbrite pads. That's the only thing I'll use on my SS Smiths because with just a little effort they let me duplicate the factory finish (or nearl so!)

When I bought the infamous 686 with the K Frame Sideplate, couldn't find a L Sideplate and finally caved and sent it to Springfield.
The 'Bigboys' warned, don't send that K Sideplate, they may keep it.
So it went to Mass for a Sideplate.
Got the new Sideplate and a 'Refinish.'
Didn't ask for a refinish.
But was charged for one.
The Gun looked pretty much the same coming back as it did going up.
Except for the Sideplate.

What makes you think it needs polishing? Deep surface scratches? A M66 is supposed to have a matte finish, neither polished nor dull. Early (M66 and M66-1) have collector value and polishing one would ruin some of that value. Your gun, though, so shine away. Have you ever waxed and polished a piece of furniture? You'd do it the same way for a stainless gun, you can hardly mess anything up.

OP,

I've asked this same question over the years and get the same response how easy it is to do yourself blah blah blah they can't comprehend your question they never could mine good luck on finding some one to do the job

How bout some pictures of these Stainless Guns that need 'refinishing.'
My oldest Stainless is a 60 No Dash I bought in 1968, I think.
Never carried or shot that much.
I have a snub 66 that I bought used about 30 years ago.
Also had a 4 inch, it was stolen.
The Shorty was my primary SD gun for many years.
Have holster carried, car carried, back pocket carried.
I have shot it a lot.
Have other newer Stainless Revolvers, got most of them used.
Funny thing is - I never had the urge to refinish' any of them.
Only one I ever had 'refinished' was at Springfield which I didn't request!
