You can always send your 66 to the factory and get the finish it was born with.
Go to your local Home Depot or Lowe's and check their paint dept for grey Scotchbrite pads. That's the only thing I'll use on my SS Smiths because with just a little effort they let me duplicate the factory finish (or nearl so!)

Your Model 19-7 was too late to have received the Carbonia oil blue, but would have been given a black oxide blue. Around year 2000, S&W changed their black oxide process to one that is more EPA friendly, the result was a black finish that is prone to taking on a plum tint when exposed to solvents that contain ammonia.So if I sent a model 19-7 back to the factory for re-bluing it would look like the original? Or do the modern revolers have a different bluing?
