S&W Model 686

All around gun

I think the 686 is one of the most useful and versatile handguns in existence. I have two of them, in 6 inch and 2.5 inch barrels, and would get a 4 incher if I saw a good one. You can use them for targets, hunting, home defense or concealed carry, with a wide variety of ammo.

Have owned four 686s and my current version , bought new in 1994, is a 686-4 and the accuracy is beyond expectations on what is possible with a mass produced revolver! Very impressed! Get one , you will be glad you did!

My first revolver was a S&W 686 no dash with 6 inch barrel. It took a few hundred rounds to smooth out the trigger but after that I was in love. I shot it really hard like 200 rounds usually every other week for 4 years and then a friend asked me to sell it to him. Like a dummy I sold it because I was going through a 1911 phase at that time and I always regretted it.

Well long story short this year I bought another 6 inch no dash 686 and it's never leaving the family. The L frame is a great gun and excellent shooter. I also picked up a 586 no dash 8 3/8 inch barrel with adjustable front sight and I like that one two.

My 2 L frames.

I bought this 4" 686 no dash brand new when they were first introduced in the early 80's. Since then I have been down to one handgun a couple of times, and this has always been the "one".

Love my 686 with a six inch barrel. Got it used in excellent condition with some trigger work. A joy to shoot both single and double action.

+1 For a S&W 686 L-Frame.
