I currently own a S&W 5" Pro 9mm built in 2009, is it worth selling it and replacing it with the same model and caliber in a newer 2015 build date?

Thanks,
John

I have to ask, is there some compelling reason for considering this?

Are there reliability issues, FTF, FTE ect. Do you shoot it well?

I am more than puzzled trying to figure out why.

No problems with the gun, newer models appear to have different back straps "gripper", the barrels look like they have a different lock up in the lug area, barrels now advertised with a 1/10 twist rate, improved sear block apex friendly. Other than that trigger pull and reset is great on mine.
Thanks

I have a Compact made in 2008 and a Pro made July of this year both have lightened triggers and fiber optic sights, front and rear, other than that, factory stock. Both shoot about the same 25 yard group sizes off a bench and both are 100% reliable. If I would have known the Compact shot just as well as the Pro, I wouldn't have bought the Pro.

I guess they would sell you the current texture grip. If not S&W, somebody shooting Large might sell his Medium.

If accuracy is adequate, there is no need for a different barrel. If it is not adequate, I would look at the Apex/Barsto replacement instead of a whole new gun.

If the trigger pull is good, why does adaptability to aftermarket parts matter?

I would not trade a gun that I KNEW worked for one that I HOPED would work.

Unless you want the ported one, I can't see it making much difference. Check the sear housing and see if it has the larger sear spring hole. If not, you can get one from G&R Tactical.

As far as the barrel, if it shoots well now, why bother. Otherwise check out Storm Lake or KKM.

S&W will not sell the new CORE backstraps to non CORE owners. Many have tried. I gave my Med. backstrap to another forum member because I never use it. He called S&W and they wanted the serial # to verify the model of gun he had.

I have tried the KKM and Storm Lake barrels in my new Pro and sent them back, because they didn't allow for any tighter groups than the factory barrel (3-5" at 25 yards). As for the Apex: They're supposed to have two models, a semi-drop-in (15 minutes of fitting) and a factory fitted. I may try the former, if they get good reviews and can get me close to 2 inches. They have been five years in the making and Randy Lee says they should be available next month. We'll see......

I just was curious if the newer ones were that much better than the older models and if the newer updates made that much of a difference? Jim I couldn't agree with you more, mine shoots fine and if I ended up selling it for a newer model well lets say it would not be the first time I regretted it.
Thanks,
John

BTW it does have the smaller sear hole and spring, it is the older stlye.

I have one of the earlier ones that has been shot a lot in competition, and a newer one that is a backup with far less use. I won't bore you with war stories about how well both shoot.
Save your money and enjoy your gun. :)

There have been other "improvements" across the M&P line. The "H" stamp trigger bar, the improved slide lock lever, and, covered already, the 1:10 twist rate barrel.

I've installed the H trigger bar and new slide stop in my 2012 FS9. I've also done a light buff on the trigger bar. Grit is gone but I can feel it "stage". Still more overtravel than I'd like and I get a slight "double reset". One click when the trigger bar slides off the striker block, then another when the trigger bar actually resets. Adjusting the loop will probably take care of it.

My 2013 Compact has the PC Sear, H bar, and new slide stop. Has a clean break, pronounced single rest.

I've never measured it but the pull weights seem unaffected.
