S&W PC finishing services

I have a S&W 686 stainless no-dash 6" that I'll be sending in for the "M" fix - I bought the gun used and noticed that there was no M. Since the gun is going back to the factory on their dime, I'm considering having some refinishing work done, or possibly the Combat Revolver Package Medium/Large Frame package (which includes a bead blasted finish), at my expense, of course. Does anyone have pictures of the glass bead stainless finish versus the high bright polish stainless finish that the PC puts on the guns that they refinish (Performance Center(R) Precision Gunsmithing | Smith & Wesson)?

I don’t have pics, because my firearm is coming back from the mothership tomorrow with a refinish and action package… Be prepared to wait 7 months.

Excuse me for saying this, but IMO, 7 months is nuts. Obviously, in any business you always want a backlog of work, but in this instance the excessive backlog is due to diminished QC, and a failure to apprentice a sustaining repair and enhancement work force. This condition predates Covid, so they can't play that trump card anymore.

I recently sent a gun to Walther. 2.5 weeks inclusive of the shipping time both ways

I agree that 7 months is too long. That being said, I was sending my firearm in for warranty work and decided to add some extras. The refinishing is where the 7 month wait is. General warranty work is quicker (certainly too long, as well). My advice would be to ask customer service what the wait times are prior to placing an order and sending in your gun…. I contemplated purchasing another, just like the one I sent in, to hold me over during the wait.

Thanks, all - for a variety of reasons, I've decided to NOT send the gun to S&W - on to the next chapter of "Adventures in Amateur Gunsmithing" !!
