Well..... I guess everybody has a different opinion. Personally, I like 90-95% original finish guns in excellent mechanical condition. I can enjoy looking at them (knowing they are original) AND I can also shoot them with no guilt whatsoever. They have character. And I know from conversations with others that I am not the only person who feels this way. For me to do this same thing (refinish), I personally feel would be spending $544 to make two guns devoid of character - and worth no more that what they were worth prior to the refinish.
Having said that, I think it important to point out this matter of collecting Smith & Wessons is a multi-faceted hobby. It is great that there are so many Smiths that folks can do whatever they want with them in order to enjoy them in the manner in which they choose. I would not have done it, but I'm glad you did if it makes you happy. And I truly and sincerely do wish you a great deal of enjoyment with your two refinished beauties.....
