S&W RM #2641 Serial #53452

I didn't know they had any gun shops left in Kitsap County?

What piques my curiosity is why the store owner was not willing to let you converse with the seller. The only reason that rises in my suspicious mind is that they did not pay a premium price for the gun and don't want the seller to know what they charged you.

I could be wrong, I thought that I was wrong once before but I was mistaken.

By any chance are you willing to share what the dealer asked? Many of us like to keep up with current rates......

I have been a good customer at this shop for several years, but most of my interactions have been with his sales guys and not him directly. They stated this gun was on consignment, so I suspect the seller had named his price and they received their normal percentage. This shop for me has historically had reasonable prices on both new and used firearms. It does turn out though that the owner was selling his shop just a few days after my purchase. 40 plus years he was ready for retirement.

I do not mind sharing what I paid. I think I did pretty well considering, what I have seen RM'S go for on Gunbroker, and at Rock Island Auction. A pair of consecutive registered numbers from the Butte, MT. 19 5" guns, sold in excess of 15K. I paid $4700 out the door.

MRCVS, Yes Sir I will. It may not be until next weekend. When I come and go to work this time of year it is usually dark.

SWSC, Thank you for the link.

Bobby137, there was more pawn shops than gun stores but it's about even now. Boerner Firearm's has been there a long time.

Thank you everyone else for the comments and kind words.

I get that the gun was still consigned and the owner might be persuaded to pull it for a private sale if he could communicate with a buyer. Seller may not have wanted others to know he had weapons at home. Several reasons exist to keep things private, not the least of which might be a divorcing wife picking up the phone.

I only asked the gun store owner to share my phone number with the seller after I had already made the purchase. I felt like the seller could make the decision to share any other family history with the weapon or not. You do bring up some very valid points though.

I think you did reasonably well. I don't personally have experience with such a purchase… RMs aren't exactly commonplace. But, you've got a real beauty with great provenance. And, at that price! -Winner!
Thanks for sharing.

I think you did well too.
Do you have a link to that pair of guns? I wonder if it is the pair I put together some years ago-

Based on my little knowledge of this subject, I would say that you did very well for this gun with its attached provenance....

Is the gun shop going out of business or sold to new owners that will keep the business going???

My, My, My and a 5" no less. Nice catch, you have a very nice gun. Worth considerably more than what you paid. You are on the right track collecting S&W's. Good luck in future acquisitions.

Took me about 10 years to stumble on a local Reg Mag, Larry

Sold to new owners. To the best of my knowledge the business will continue. I just hope they retain the current staff. A couple of the guys are very knowledgeable across the spectrum of handguns and rifles, new and old.
