My understanding (from reading this forum) is that S&W was sued by Glock for patent infringement because the Sigma was too close in design to the Glock. I looked at a Ruger SR9 today and the trigger group, striker, and barrel block are much more similar to the Glock than the Sigma. What gives. Why is Glock not suing Ruger? Not that I want to see more lawyers get fat--I am just curious.

Sigma law suit came from the early guns, F series I believe. It was said you could take a glock slide and put it on the sigma, don't know if its true, but thats what I've heard. S&W changed the sigma's trigger, as a result of the law suit, to the current setup (and the most common sigma complaint). As for the SR9, Glock probably doesn't want to be associated with the recall Ruger had as a result of their trigger group allowing the gun to fire uncommanded. If this was a real problem or just lawyers trying to take over the world, I don't know, but I wouldn't sue over their similar trigger design if they have to recall it. I would also bet that a Glock slide won't fit on an SR9

Can anyone post a photograph or schematic that compares the early and late sigma? I have access to a SR9 and own a Glock so I can compare them. It just seems to me that there has to be some inherent similarity in design in the striker fired pistols.
