I was at the range today and a guy was saying that Smith had stopped making J-frames and had no intention of starting production back anytime soon. I didn't know if this was correct so I kept my mouth shut.
S&W stopped making J-frames???

S&W probably makes all of their revolvers in "batches" so it wouldn't be at all surprising if they suspend production of every model at some point. The simple truth is that revolvers are a relatively low volume product and no manufacturer can afford to dedicate a production line to just one model and allow it to sit idle once the orders are all filled. They also have a bit of a history of NOT releasing any schedules to the shop floor or the public ahead of time.
So, yeah they've probably suspended production of the J Frames for now and haven't given any indication of when it will be resumed. No news in this, it's how S&W has operated their plant for a lot of years.

As long as the 642 is their leading seller (the last I heard it was) they are NOT going to permanently stop making J's. The gnatweight scandium jobs seem to be selling well too. If they stop making steel J-frames I'll be seriously upset, but I don't see that happening either.

That's right no more J frames so better buy mine while you still can.

It's true! All J and K frames are actually being made in Brazil by Taurus (who actually owns S&W), shipped unfinished and unmarked , to be completed in Springfield!

Here is proof. A 3" gun that gets cut to a 2" gun so it can get past the 1968 Gun Bill.
