Here is a S&W Top Break Serial number 234XXX, it looks like it is new, Blueing about 98%, no rust and in almost perfect condition. I have attached a picture, trying to find out the manufacturer date, I know they were made from the late 1890's to early 1900's, it is a 32S&W caliber with ivory grips that are not cracked or looked used at all. From what I can see everything is original with no rust or pitting at all. Can anyone tell me what year and what this is worth, picked it up when I bought out a collection and this was part of it.

You have a 32 Double Action, 4th Model, shipped around 1902. Antiques are serial numbers below 209,301. I am thinking you might have a refinished gun, since S&Ws from that era had a very high gloss blue finish, but not having it in hand makes it hard to be certain.

Those stocks are made of mother of pearl, a cham shell material and were very popular after-market option. Factory original pearl stocks would have a gold S&W medallion in the top of each stock.

There were over a quarter-million of this gun made and value is quite low. If refinished, I would estimate around $200 with the non-factory pearl stocks.

This revolver has been reblued. The hammer and trigger are case colored from the factory. This example has a blued hammer and trigger.

Mike is correct. This gun has been refinished and the pearl stocks are non factory. Current market value is in the $200-$250 range, assuming it's in good mechanical condition and usable in Cowboy Shooter matches. Ed.
