What are people using to maintain the wood stocks on their classic S&W revolvers? I have a number of them and for some reason this never occurred to me before now. Any favorite products to clean and oil them?
Me too...I use RenWax.
Yes sir, boiled linseed oil. Most linseed oils are boiled/treated to speed their drying. Raw linseed oil can be found, but it dries REALLY slow, if at all. What is BLO?
Dirt is not patina.I'm wondering if cleaning old stocks might be removing a desirable "patina"?
+1, I also prefer Minwax brand Tung oil - to linseed oil, as linseed oil can get very dark. Tung oil penetrates, dries & protects without darkening.I clean them, clean & polish the hardware, dress the screw and put some Minwax Tung-Oil Finish oil on them & hand buff. I've never regretted it. I do the same with newer lacquer stocks, but use Minwax Finishing Wax instead of the Tung-Oil Finish.
