S&W547 in 38Super

I have NEVER seen or heard of a S&W Revolver chambered for 38 Super.
The 547 is chambered for .355 caliber. I was asking if anyone has seen or done a 547 cylinder machined out for longer 38Super. Pressures can be kept about same as 9MM if not loaded to 38Super+P ammo. I do not have the gun with me right now. I cannot remember is cylinder chambers are tapered as the 9MM round is.

I have 2 547's.....a 3" and a 4". I have "never" seen anything OR anyone mention anything about shooting .380 out of it. Where did you get that information from?
I believe the cylinder could be modified to accept the .38 Super ammunition, but there may be an issue with the extractor system in the 547, in that it might not be compatible with the .38 Super cartridge.
Perhaps you could check with Mark and pinnacle High Performance to see if this would be feasible?

I believe there was a Performance Center model 686-7 available in .38 Super.

Pressures won't be your problem. Stick with published loads that abide by SAAMI specs and the 38 Super +p pressure isn't any higher than 9mm or 9mm +p. Bigger 38 super case will let you do more with a heavier bullet than the 9mm will with lower pressure than the 9mm with the same bullet.

Just keep in mind that unlike the 9MM family of revolvers that use moon clips for head spacing (940, 686, 627, 986, 929, etc) the 547 headspaces on the case mouth.
This means that you CAN NOT reliably shoot the shorter cartridges in that cylinder.
The 547 is not designed to let the cartridges head space on the extractor. I am not sure how that would alter the life span of the beryllium extractor fingers
I do know of one person that converted his 547 for 38 Super. He later bought my spare 547 cylinder assembly for shooting 9MM

And there was also a couple of runs of 627s chambered for 38 Super as well.
However the 547 and it's beryllium extractors are a unique eccentricity in the Smith & Wesson lineup
Thank you for your advice in your two posts. And thank you for your statesmanship tone. That makes perfect sense in regards to the beryllium extractors. Makes more sense to buy a new gun.......just what I don't need, or buy a separate 547 cylinder and bore it out, and try to avoid timing problems, but since the cylinders are not available anymore makes pointless.
The 9mm Luger (+P) SAAMI max is 38.5K psi.
The 38 Super (+P) SAAMI max is 36.5K psi.
