Good Morning Ya'll,

It's a warm, humid Sabbath Day in the Heart of Dixie today. August already, and it will be Christmas before I'm prepared for it.

Just finished a great breakfast with fresh tomatoes, store bought cantalope, jalapeno pepper, homemade biscuits......

Most of the time the jalapenos are not hot at all, but the one this morning just about burned my face off. :-) My coffee only made my mouth burn more, I finally refreshed my cup of ice water and it helped. Only a mild burn at the moment.

Have you ever had a day that seemed to be planned by circumstance? Yesterday was that way for me. I just thought that I was gonna just play the guitar a little, and work on my music project, maybe take a nap, or two........ Wrong!!!!!

Our youngest Daughter texted and said she and the grandson were coming over. Not a bad thing, but I have to shower and shave, and make sure my old shirt is buttoned correctly. In the mean time, the MBH says the drugstore texted her and a prescription would be ready Saturday morning. Guess who gets to pick up prescriptions etc? Oh well, I can be down there at WM when the pharmacy opens, not a problem, and I'll be home well before the Daughter gets here... Wrong again!!

I get showered, dressed and get to the WM pharmacy shortly after it opened, and there is already a line. I wait patiently and it's finally my turn, "it's not ready yet, and it will be about 40 minutes before it is." My blood pressure went up several points.

I get out of line, call the MBH and ask if the script was supposed to be ready. "Well, yes, I got a text saying they had run the card through. Did WM text you and say the prescription was ready? Well..... no." My BP is climbing by the minute.

I then see a young guy I know who wants to play guitar, and we talk and waste time waiting. I talk him, (I think) out of buying a $6,000.00 Martin guitar, that might need at least another thousand in repairs. I promise to help him pick out a Martin when he is ready, and get back in line.

I finally get back to the head of the line, "it's still not ready, but we are working on it. It will be a few more minutes."

I get back out of the line again, and receive a text from the MBH: Diane will be here about noon, can you get something for lunch? I bite my tongue and say yes.

I go to the Deli and pick up some chicken and stuff, and back to the pharmacy and in line. Finally reach the counter again, and this time the prescription is ready, but one can't be filled yet.

I get home, Diane and Ben, the grandson are there already, it's 11:30 am, and I've been 2 hours at the pharmacy trying to get a 3 dollar prescription filled.

We have lunch, a pleasant visit, and the Daughter and grandson leave to spend some time together.

The MBH and I both collapse in our rocking chairs and take a nap or two.

About 7 pm my phone rings, it's Diane. Her car has broken down, and she wants to know if I can pick them up and carry them home. Of course I say yes.

So, the MBH and I drive 50 or so miles, find them up and carry them about another 15 miles home. Then back home for us.

Other than that, I didn't have a thing planned for Saturday. :-)

Needless to say, I didn't have to be encouraged to go to bed.

Thanks for letting me vent, after it was all said and done, I'm glad I was able to get it done, and get home safely. God is good.

Have a blessed Sabbath, hug your family real tight and tell them you love them.
We are going to worship service in a little while and tell God we love Him.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Good morning Leon.

I missed your Sabbath musings last weekend and felt somehow vaguely incomplete. I feel much better today.

Your grace in the midst of the annoyance inflicted by WM is a wonderful example for those of us who sometimes over-respond to life’s vagaries.

Yesterday, I took my 14 year old granddaughter to get her first Covid vaccination. She and my son live with me.

It’s been a struggle to get her vaccinated since her mother has vague worries about the vaccine and my son won’t get vaccinated until the CDC gives full approval to the vaccine. I have no patience for their foolishness. My granddaughter wanted to get vaccinated. Fortunately, the pharmacy was happy to administer the vaccine with my consent.

She starts high school on the 16th and will get the second shot on the 21st. She has had no adverse reaction to the vaccine, of course.

Thank you again Leon.

Good morning, everybody. It's cloudy here in southcentral PA and it is expected to rain. But that's OK, I'm sure everyone's farm fields and gardens need the rain.

Today is a big day. We are having a family reunion at the borough park. We are under a pavilion so if it rains it won't be a problem. A couple of my cousins and I have been planning this. Last year I had to cancel the reunion on account of the pandemic. This year it was up in the air for a long time but things fell together and with shorter than normal notice we are able to put the reunion on this year. My aunt and uncle here in town will be coming and a bunch from my multitude of cousins will be coming in for it. I'm looking forward to seeing my cousins for a happy gathering. The car is loaded and all I have to do now is pick up a bag of ice. A few of my cousins will be bringing most of the food. They were a big help to me in planning the reunion.

It's time to go get cleaned up and ready to head out. Everybody enjoy this day.

Keep up the good work.

It's wonderful to read of the many worthwhile things that you accomplished in only one day!

Your good fortune Totally overwhelms me, as you accomplished more in one day, than I have in the last year, and also, restored some of my faith in humanity.

I'm envious of your sincere pizzazz, and character.

Keep up your good works!

Good Sabbath Leon,

Well the heat this week has been beyond my memory of past heat waves. The index here was over 105°.

We did our walks, but we're miserable. This morning was a little better because of last night's rain.

Our Tuesday rimfire match was cancelled because of a Covid scare. Speaking of that, a couple we know well, refused to get the vaccine. Sad story, but she is now hospitalized and has it. She has lost 75% of her lung capacity. Her husband is not allowed to care for her because he isn't vaccinated. It's a real mess. He did go and get vaccinated, finally.

This new variation of Covid is dangerous. I've said enough about that.

I took a friend to buy a new pistol at the gun shop where I do most of my business to help him pick out a new Sig P365X. It was entertaining for me to wheel-and-deal. I do so much enjoy that kinda stuff.

I'm still certified with my old department and they only approve Glocks, so that's all I carry. I think those Sig's handle better though. Very impressive.

I can't seem to keep up with the lawn care. It's rained so much. But, that's better than a drought. My grass needs cutting every three days! I'm so thankful for our zero turn machine.

I think I'll give Quigley a truck ride today. He's been working very hard on our search and rescue morning drills. I pushed him a little too hard in the heat this week. With no breeze, he has to work double hard to find the scent and locate his hidden "toy". I love to watch a dog work!

God is good! Keep the faith!

EDIT

Thought I would post a basic training video.

Turn the volume up.

Here Quigley is spotted about 1000 yards away. On command he starts the search. His "toy" is hidden somewhere in the 50 trees. You can hear the dogs barking in the background to distract him.

Thirty-seconds, he finds his toy. He works fast!

Leon,

After reading about you Saturday adventure, I'm ready for a nap myself! I hope you have a much quieter Sunday!

The wife and I are enjoying the hummingbirds. After waiting longer that we remembered from last year, one and now two have showed up with enthusiasm. Fascinating creatures!

This afternoon one of my hunting lease mates, his son and I will deliver a new shooting house to our hunting grounds. I spent the better part of yesterday installing fold up window shutters on the shooting house. It took longer than expected due to three phone call interruptions.

The first call was from one of my high-power rifle shooting friends with a report on a Civil War auction that included a U.S. 6 lb. field piece. A mutual friend was interested in acquiring it for his property and had called me for information. I know a little about cannons but, my HP friend knows a great deal and owns a reproduction 8 pounder that he used to use in reenactments. We both estimated the value of the original gun, captured by the South at Chickamauga, to be between $15 to $25K. It had the proper provenance. The selling price was $25,000.00. That specific sale took less than two minutes between two bidders and the opening bid was $15,000.00.

A second call was from my closest HP shooting friend requesting information on a 1903 Springfield that he had purchased from the DCM back in the 70's. He had all of the paper work showing that it was a "high number" 03' that had been rebuilt for WWII. The problem, he couldn't find the rifle. Since he is about ten years older, I suggested that he had "hidden" it from himself and he didn't disagree but, the mystery has yet to be solved.

The third call was from a fellow S&W enthusiast who couldn't wait to tell me about the "new" to him 98% Mod. 39-2 he acquired from a LGS for $600.00. His came with only one (1) magazine and he remembered that I acquired my last year with the box, docs and four magazines. I politely declined to sell him one of my extra mags because they are so danged hard to replace.

I am constantly reminded how blessed I am to have such good friends, great hobbies and now, a view of humming birds.

Leon, sometimes you control the days, and other times the days control you and it's damn frustrating. Not much you can do about it; just go with the flow. At the end of the day have one of your favorite adult beverages and savor that opportunity to relax for a while.

Thank you for the kind words, just trying to share my outlook on life during these troubled times.
One thing though, the problem at WalMart was not caused by WM.

My MBH (much better half) misunderstood the text she received, she just glanced at it and thought WM had the prescription ready. In reality the text only showed that they had run the credit card through before the product was ready for pickup. I was not aware of that when I went to WM.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

How can a week pass so fast Leon?
Good for you with all your help for others ...You know they think you are the Best...as well as me!

Life is a challenge for sure.... glad we are still up and able to help.

Don't know what I'd do without prayer and the Lord by my side?

Hope you have a great one....

Peace to All!

I don't normally post in this thread twice in a day, but I figured that going a week would make it hard to report on our family reunion that we held today. I got to see a bunch of my cousins that I haven't seen for a few years, and I got to meet the significant others of some of my cousins for the first time.

My cousin who ordered the food did a good job. We had enough for everybody, including some potential big eaters. Another cousin, who is a culinary director for a nursing home, duplicated my aunt's wonderful potato salad that has fed us all for decades.

My aunt and uncle who live 4 blocks from me were there. They used to put on these family gatherings for years and years, but I stepped to organize the reunion two years ago because my aunt had a stroke back then. Happily my aunt was able to come and enjoy herself.

My cousin from upstate PA brought her significant other and his son. I never looked at myself as one of the patricarchs of the family, but both of them made sure to come up to me to introduce themselves. The father is a veteran and a history buff and he told me how much he enjoyed coming down to visit Gettysburg. He was impressed when I told him how my cousin and I had our great grandfather's name on the Pennsylvania monument.

Last year I had to cancel the reunion because of the pandemic regulations. I didn't want to have the family reunion not take place for two years in a row, so I am happy we were able to pull this off today. I think it will increase significantly the chances of doing this next year.

I hadn't been expecting to add any more to this thread, but there was a wonderful twist to the family reunion we had on Sunday. To establish the background, 2 years ago my aunt who lives 4 blocks from me had a stroke, and then had another stroke this year. In our regular morning text messasges, my uncle told me how much my aunt was really perked up from getting the chance to see a bunch of her nieces and nephews who came to the reunion. He was very glad that my cousins and I worked so hard to put on the family reunion this year when we had to cancel it last year, because of how much good it did for my aunt.
