Sad day for Model 64

A pre-lock 2" Model 64 is a bad looking revolver!

Yes it is - even if you have to make one!

From this (European re-import with the worst trigger I ever used):

To this, thanks to a skilled Forum member (and a MUCH improved trigger):

And I still have this one, purchased from a local security company a few years ago for under 200 bucks:

The new system doesn't rely on skilled fitting, something getting harder to find every day.

MIM parts are more precise & allow for much closer tolerances and do not require any fitting. Fitted parts that some people praise like it's the holy grail are finished by hand because they are NOT precise and are NOT identical in fit & finish. it is arguable that fitted parts are really a result of inconsistent manufacturing, take up man time, and as a result in todays high demand, is not cost effective at all. To have a company like S&W hand fit each part on every revolver they produce. We'd be paying Kimber prices for a 642.

MIM parts can be swapped out for a new part with no fitting whatsoever. it's a drop in. Resulting in producing more parts/products to meet demand, reducing man time = reducing prices. This is true for pretty much every product we buy.

Awash in 64's

I must be living in the wrong state, as I hardly ever see a 64 for sale. The last snub 64 I saw they were asking mid 5’s or better.
So let me know where these $350-400 early snubbies are today, I’m game for a few more.
I can tell from your post you are not a user of the internet, I am out of necessity and I can only tell you GB and the like are awash with 64's, mainly 4" bull barrel. In spite of having to pay shipping and FFL, for me an additional $60 I would consider it to be a strong buyers market, take you pick at $300 some offering free shipping.

Internet(like this site, and the other dozens I’m on), my state, apples and 18 wheelers.
I see a lot of 4 inch 64’s, very very few under 300 that aren’t beaters or have the IL, currently listed. And those have bids on them with days to go.
I am not interested in those anyways. So help this non Internet person find some snubbies as I posted for the prices I posted.

Same Day Update

I found a nice 4" 64 in excellent conditon for $300. With the money I saved, a new 640 Pro is on the way. One for the nightstand, one for my EDC rotation. Who would've thought?

I really need a mechanically sound 64 or 10, and it can be cosmetically challenged if it's not rusty. Snub or four-inch, either is fine with me. I need another house gun.

Unfortunately, right now I can't afford even a beater. But I think the 64 and 10 are just about ideal head-of-the-bed guns in an apartment like mine. They will do anything I need a handgun to do, at home or out and about.
