I’ve got an appt with vet this evening to put the old dog down. She’s been going downhill rapidly since Friday. Sadie belongs to my 90 yr old mom,but I’ve been babysitting them both for the last several years. The dog is senile and ma has a very limited short term memory and has been insisting once an hour for days “that dog just needs a bath” [emoji57].It’s been a long weekend and I finally told her Sadie’s time has come. She had no idea.

Last Wednesday, I had to take my 17-year old long hair mini dachshund Ima to the vet for the same thing. She had gotten to where she couldn't stand up and wouldn't eat. I also held her in my arms as she went over the Rainbow Bridge. Like Will Rodgers said "If dogs don't go to heaven, I want to go where they go".

How Sadie came to be here
My youngest sister has been a critter collector from birth. A dozen years ago she rescued a little dog from a kill shelter, called ma and told her she needed this little dog before it was put down. Ma and her boyfriend (both 78) made plans to drive to Worland,Wy,400 miles away,on a Wednesday, get the dog and drive back Thursday. It was January so I checked the forecast. There were blizzard warnings all the way from the state line to Worland. I sat them down and told them to wait a few days. They are stubborn people and went anyway. Somewhere around Casper, old Dave launched the Explorer off of the freeway and out into the prairie. They had it towed to town where he convinced a mechanic to cobble it back together again and they were off the next morning to Worland. They brought her home. She was underweight and sickly. I took her to my vet who discovered that her intestines had been nicked when she was spayed a few days earlier,so he patched her up for me. Meantime,ma’s insurance company checked out her Ford and totaled it [emoji23][emoji33][emoji29]
The body looked fine, but the frame, steering and suspension weren’t.They drove 600 miles like that!

Am so sorry for your loss. They freely give us so many years of affection. It was a lot of years till i got another dog.

Sorry for your (& your Mom’s) loss.

It’s been almost eight months since we lost our Rat Terrier rescue. Due to abuse and neglect he had a lot of medical issues when we adopted him from the local animal shelter. No one else wanted him and, being a lifelong terrier lover I couldn’t bear the thought of him never knowing unconditional love and my bride supported my decision to adopt him.

We are still grieving, he was one in a million and we’re not sure we’ll ever adopt another terrier... unless God brings another one to us like the little guy we’re missing so much.

I’m with Will Rogers, I wanna go where our pets have gone.

So sorry to hear this.

9 years ago yesterday, July 5th, I had to put down my Weimaraner "Smoky" who was our best boy for many years. I never have truly gotten over it...

...though we did rescue another great little gal three months later that we call "Skyler" ("Sky" for short).

The pain is the price we pay for the opportunity to love and be loved by them.

So very sorry to hear about Sadie.. Our deep condolences to you and your family.
