what would be a light load for the old S&W top break third model, that would not blow it apart ?

or is it black powder only ?

#2 is the modern smokeless factory ammo mild enough to shoot in these old top breaks ?

Here is a link to some 38 S&W loads that M. D. Smith has published on the Internet. Some are specifically designated for the break top models. Can't vouch for these so your on your own using them. I can tell you I used the W231 load for a revolver and it was an excellent load.

thanks

I loaded 38 Special for a blackpowder 1851 Colt Navy c/b SA conversion I built for myself, and the results were quite good with smokeless by duplicating the "cowboy" 38 Sp. loads from the internet

so I'll check it out for S&W as well
