Does anyone have a source for safe stop ammunition by Village Matalworks?

Its my understanding that they are no longer available... I still have 10 rounds saved...for what I dont know.

I was wondering if somone could post pics of the ammunition or just the bullet, and maybe some ballistics and possibly a recoverd round.

I've surfed the net with neg results on this round.

There are several Forum members who knew the inventor. There are even more who speak of the inventor and product. In fact when still being produced, it was being produced by yet another Forum member. And there's a ugly and vicious rumor that a certain lawyer allegedly may have some of it stashed.
But it's only hearsay?

If its the same lawyer we share the same thoughts on shot placement and heavy bullets. Maybe since i'm asking nicely he will post some pics and ballistic info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

spotteddog can I ahve the letter "E"
for a pic of the safe stop ammo

Sorry!

Don't look at me - thought my learned brother in the law East of the Pecos is a likely suspect.

You might also send an email to Al William, who worked with Fuzzy making these. alwilliam2000 - at - yahoo.com (replace " - at - " with ampersand, of course).

I have 300 rounds of the 158+P lwsc that I use in my "J" frames and Colt Cobras. Fired off another box I had to ensure feeding and it is a great, probably one of the best snubby rounds ever made. Wish they'd make it again. I heard they had made some in 45acp, I'd love to get my hands on some of that!

Okay, okay, yeah, I have a couple boxes.

And 5 rounds in the 342 on my left ankle.

I've spoken to Fuzzy Fletcher several times about the possibility of gearing up to produce more of it. It's been several months since I last spoke with him. At that time, he was waiting to hear from Jim Cirillo's son, and perhaps other heirs. Mr. Cirillo owned some part of the design, and while I do not know the specifics, suffice it to say that Fuzzy was not comfortable going forward with loading more without the go-ahead from Mr. C's heirs. I'll try to give him a call in the next few days. He will occasionally post here, or at least, he used to.

The bullet design is a heavily plated, sharp edged, full wadcutter weighing about 148 gr. Fuzzy produced it in +P and standard pressure loadings. The bullet in the +P has a deep "vee" cut across the meplat. I forget the exact numbers, but I'm recalling about 900-925fps. from a 1 7/8" barrel. Shot into water, two wedges, weighing about 22 gr. each, break off the nose and spin off, leaving the core to penetrate. Fuzzy says behavior in flesh is similar.

The standard velocity load has no vee cut in the bullet, and runs about 775 fps. from a snubby, as I recall.

Mr. Cirillo did in fact load some .45 ACP wadcutters, but feeding in unmodified guns was iffy, at best. My understanding is that he'd only trust it for the round in the chamber, with more conventional profiles in the mag. He also worked some with .38-45 Behlert rounds in 1911s, loaded with wadcutters. I've never heard of any 158s, though.

Yeah?
Just my luck! Fuzzy quit making them just about the time I found out about them. And he was in my hood too!
DAMMIT!
Thanks for getting back to us with all that info John!

Tried to call Fuzzy this morning. He answered, then I either got cut off or he hung up. Hopefully, he's not just sick to death of being bugged about the ammo. I called back and left a message. I'll post if I hear from him, but I'm not going to get my hopes up...

I know that this is an old thread, however the subject of these bullets just came up, so I thought I'd post a couple of pics of my personal handloads using the .45 caliber SafeStop bullets I bought from Fuzzy several years ago.

These were made by the late Jim Cirillo, Per his partner Fuzzy Fletcher the Ciillo family does not want to move forward in produceing these rounds.

So, what is the advantage supposed to be over any other type of bullet?

Shot into water, two wedges, weighing about 22 gr. each, break off the nose and spin off, leaving the core to penetrate. Fuzzy says behavior in flesh is similar.
How did they compare to other bullets in identical shootings?

If you reload

You can look into Manstopper bullets (google) as an alternative but they have to be loaded deep or in shorter cases (.38 spl for .357 mag) or they are hard to load into the cylinder as the bullet is full diameter at the nose and can bind in the throat.
