Okay, okay, yeah, I have a couple boxes.
And 5 rounds in the 342 on my left ankle.
I've spoken to Fuzzy Fletcher several times about the possibility of gearing up to produce more of it. It's been several months since I last spoke with him. At that time, he was waiting to hear from Jim Cirillo's son, and perhaps other heirs. Mr. Cirillo owned some part of the design, and while I do not know the specifics, suffice it to say that Fuzzy was not comfortable going forward with loading more without the go-ahead from Mr. C's heirs. I'll try to give him a call in the next few days. He will occasionally post here, or at least, he used to.
The bullet design is a heavily plated, sharp edged, full wadcutter weighing about 148 gr. Fuzzy produced it in +P and standard pressure loadings. The bullet in the +P has a deep "vee" cut across the meplat. I forget the exact numbers, but I'm recalling about 900-925fps. from a 1 7/8" barrel. Shot into water, two wedges, weighing about 22 gr. each, break off the nose and spin off, leaving the core to penetrate. Fuzzy says behavior in flesh is similar.
The standard velocity load has no vee cut in the bullet, and runs about 775 fps. from a snubby, as I recall.
Mr. Cirillo did in fact load some .45 ACP wadcutters, but feeding in unmodified guns was iffy, at best. My understanding is that he'd only trust it for the round in the chamber, with more conventional profiles in the mag. He also worked some with .38-45 Behlert rounds in 1911s, loaded with wadcutters. I've never heard of any 158s, though.
