Safety button not working

Nevermind I found out what it was, I had to pull my charging handle back and then the selector was able to go to safe. Newbie here......lol

Yep, AR will only allow the safety to be engaged when the hammer is back.

Yes I did a youtube search and found it. I thought I did something wrong after I cleaned the gun.

Unlike a bolt safety or some trigger safeties the AR type rifles will not engage the safety unless the trigger tail piece is depressed by the hammer so the safety can rotate.

I guess I'll be learning a lot more about ar's. Last rifle I owed was a Marlin 30-30 back in the 80's........lol
