So I'm interested in your guys thoughts and opinions. I recently acquired through purchase a K22 17-4. Part of the deal with the Mrs. is that I sell one of my .357's. Either my 686-6 plus 4" or 681 no dash 4". In a perfect world I would keep both but we all know its not a perfect world. :) The 686 is a nicer gun but the 681 isn't made anymore. Which one would you sell?

Unless you are interested in just collector value, I would choose the one that I shot and enjoyed best. For me, I'd guess the 686, as I like adjustable sights on a gun that may be used with a wide variety of different ammo.

Get a second job and keep them both. She will soon tire of you being gone and will be glad to have you home on the couch fondling all your guns.

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, you've come to a group of S&W-aholics and are asking which of the "-aholic" parts to let go of. I probably can't help you much though I have been able to thin out my collection over the years.

If you really like the 681, then sell the 686 because you can buy another one of those later.

If you're not thrilled with the 681, then sell it. Either one should fetch a good price.

If you find that you don't really like .38/.357 anymore, then sell both:eek: As odd as that may sound, I'm only in a few calibers and am thinking of dropping another.

Oh, the horror..............nay, the nightmare............

Sell a gun? I'd rather cut off a testicle!

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but.....

In my 50+ years of shooting I have sold only 1 gun - a mint S&W model 41.

It was 1976 - the year I stopped competing with the local gun club, and the year I switched to handguns for deer hunting.

I got a brand new Ruger Blackhawk for her, and had to put down another 50 bucks.

Won't make that mistake again...

Well I am not sure trading your wife and $50 for a Blackhawk is a mistake....:D

Attempting some logic for your decision, if you carry then the 681 gets the nod because of the fixed sights being slightly better for carry, otherwise if you just visit the range with both then the adjustable sight gun has an advantage so the 686 'wins'.

Sell the 686, easily replaceable, there's nothing special about it and when you're more flush down the road you can easily find another one. Perhaps even a nicer older variation will be available at that time.

As you say the 681 would be more difficult to replace.

Well, I kinda like my wife so she'll be staying around. :) Plus she likes to shoot as well. As I've gotten older I've found out its productive to seek wise counsel. Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate it!

Wile I prefer target sites with the two options IMO sell the 686-6 ...
MIM / IL guns are current production and easily replaced,

Selling a gun still in production would seem the logical choice. Gunbroker does have a nice number of 681s for sale presently so I guess it's not impossible to replace.

Sometimes people wonder how or why, or both, that I happen to have so many guns at home. I smile and remind them that I am not married......although I admit I have liquidated some firearms in order to acquire others no woman has a voice in that decision. I think I'll keep it that way but after 3, well, you never know!!!
