Salem 6 Magazines - Reviews

I think it's necessary to report this here as well. I was very excited about this when I saw them. Little did I know...

Just reporting back. Got mine. Tried them this weekend. Couldn't even load them much less shoot them. When I finally did get about 10 into each one, they FTF every single time I fired.

Yes, I used the loader... and a hydraulic press to push the rounds down.

Short version of a long story? Very expensive ***. Pure and simple.

Well, sorry to say, but you must have gotten the worst of the bunch... Mine were somewhat hard to load the last few rounds, but using the loader, they were not to the extreme....shot every round with no problems, and had BHO with each mag...all in all, as reliable as my S&W mags. I love that I can get 20 rounds in a mag the size of the S&W 10 rounder....makes it much more pleasurable to shoot off a bench. I would give them a thumbs up right now, but I'll wait and see how they do in the long run.

I would not be at all surprised if the problems were related to poor internal finish on the magazines and on the exterior of the follower. Moulding flash not properly removed will always cause problems. Not having one to take apart, if that's even possible, I can only speculate. Plinker Tactical's magazines were plagued with quality control problems, and the last couple of years have only marginally improved, it seems.

Got my 1st 2 in and was able to load them all the way up to 20. Maybe I'm working them wrong, but neither of the two I had would lock the bolt open when it's empty. It appears the loading tab (which is the BHO for the S&W mags) does not protrude upward enough to engage the bolt lock.

Here's a comparison photo of a S&W magazine and a Salem 6

Am I doing it wrong or did anyone else experience this?
