Salem 6 Magazines

Anybody else gonna try these or was in on the inital test run... contacted them via email and they anticipate shipping next week...

Call me a pessimist, but I am skeptical of function and consistent reliability. Especially without a video. With the number of this rifle sold and the clear interest in a reliable double stacked mag seems an actual video of the mag actually working would compel quite a few to take a chance on one even at the stated price. Something tells me this will never make it to actual production. This is independent of any copyright issues. I would love to be proven wrong, but I doubt it will happen.

Here is a picture of preproduction of the initial samples:

Also from their doublestack mag page now:

"- Loader essential to correct and consistent loading"

That is a specific loader that comes with the mag. I'm guessing that means the Lightning Loader won't work.

From one of the pics on the website the rounds seem to just be a little more "stagared" and " wider" than a regular s&w mag... so mabe that "little" more is what makes' em work...

I can't say I am not really tempted. Even tempted to spring for two, just in case. If they were shipping right away, I would probably pull the trigger.

They are planning a build party this weekend, and shipping next week. Maybe not 'immediate shipping', but about as good as some other companies (without naming names).

I've got two coming to me, and I'll be happy to give my review, good bad or indifferent.

I plan on looking the following aspects:
1) Loading
2) Reliability (rapid fire, failure to feed, stovepipes, etc)
3) Suppressed (looking for bolt hold open on last round)
4) Bench Rest / bipod use

Have two on the way and I will try to test for the same things except for suppressed (don't have one of those). I did try the ProMag and Plinker Tactical without much luck, so I hope these will work better.

I have had nothing but success with my promags, and I have a few of them. I hated my plinker tacticals until the owner was kind enough to give me a call and explain they needed to be left loaded overnight the first few uses and loaded on an open bolt. They have run reliably since. I felt confident enough and recently purchased ten from a midway fire sale on them. I did finally purchase the load assist tool zs well. I also bought a couple of the black dog drums early last year during a midway sale, but have not had a chance to try them yet. I don't really need any additional mags, but would be interested in trying the double stack as it is suitable for bench and prone shooting. Also, as I plan to put many thousands of rounds through my 15-22 I can probably never have too many mags. I will support these guys if the mags work reliably. I look forward to the reviews.

"build party" sounds more like some garage "factory" than a real production line. This brings up images of some dudes with a beer in one hand and a partially assembled magazine in the other. :D

Let's give it a chance, if it works it will be great. I like the idea of a 20rd short mag.... and they look cool.

If it works all the harbingers of doom will jump on the bandwagon anyways.
