Lets go back a ways to the early 1930s. It was a lazy summer day out in the South end of Santa Fe County, NM.
The birds were singing and those cotton candy looking clouds floated over the nearby Sandia Mountains, lying to the West.
Two local farm boys were going about their assigned duties. Just another day out in the boonies.
Then they noticed that an airplane seemed to be flying closer and lower. They had of course seen them fly over, but had never seen one on the ground, up close.
The plane got lower and lower and seemed to be looking for something.
Then it appeared to line up on a nearby pasture and disappeared from view to the boys as it landed.
When the boys realized that a plane had actually landed in their part of the world, they just couldn't believe it!
And of course they to go see it.
They were afraid that it would take off for greener pastures before they could get there, so they ran the entire 1-2 miles to the Neighboring ranch.
Arriving out of breath, they were rewarded to see that the plane was still there.
The two men from the plane were talking to the neighbors as they walked toward the ranch house.
It turned out that one of the Flyers was a friend of the neighbor and they had come to visit and have a meal.
They stayed about two hours before these very well known personalities continued on their cross country flight.
And both of these flyers were 'rock stars' way before rock and roll!
These drop-in visitors were Will Rogers and Wiley Post.
