Sunday when I was at my dad`s place I took a few pics of the scale model gas engine he build from a castings kit about 30 years ago.

I put a pop can in one of the pics so you can judge the size of the little critter.

Is it a 1 cylinder engine?

One cylinder water cooled.
Engines of this type are set to fire when ever the flywheel rmp drops below a set level.
The originals were used, with a belt, to power small items like water pumps, corn shellers, and generators on farms before they had electric service.

When was the last time it was fired up?

Has not been started in years. But it ran fine last time it was started.
Several years ago my dad built a larger toy to play with and this little engine was consigned to a dusty shelf in his garage.

Here is the toy that replaced it. A 5/8th scale model of a 22/70 Wood Brothers steam traction engine.

Hit and miss engines but some call them pop and fart engines.

There are quite a few at the little steam engine show just up the road from me. They run all kinds of neat things off them.

If you want to see more check you tube. This one is from our local one.

In this neck of the woods people just call em "Gas Engines". But they have several different names.

If I remember right there are several steam shows in PA. And a couple of them are pretty good size ones.
