Today was my day for a shot in my left eye. I alternate eyes every two months. I don't like the shots but they have allowed me to keep very good vision. The Retina Specialist checked the film and said no signs of leakage anywhere.
So I get the shot and the nurse was as usual washing my eye out and said how are things looking. Things at that point are normally hazy but today there was a blank space, I could see nothing. You might say panic kind of set in and the nurse found the Doc and brought him back. He looked at my eye and said your blood pressure is low and is not getting blood back in the eye. It will be OK as soon as you get enough blood flow. That wasn't too reassuring because a few minutes had passed and still nothing.
The first thing that I saw was an eye full of those yellow flames that you see on racing cars and they were all moving. They gradually went away and I could see the outline of the open door. Then I started picking up the shapes of the nurse and my daughter and within about ten minutes it was about as normal as it gets right after a shot.
This morning I heard the alarm,a musical alarm that I enjoyed and went right back to sleep. I woke up with one hour until my daughter picked me up to go to the Doc. I grabbed the top of a blueberry muffin and topped it off with a blood pressure pill and a little water disregarding the rest of my medicine. My instructions now from my daughter are: When the alarm goes off get your butt up, eat breakfast, take your medicine and stay out of your chair so you will get ready. My daughter will also give me a call.
My eye shot has always been in the afternoon, today it was in the morning. Never again. I am so thankful that I am not seeing a blank space.

Anything to do with our eyes is vary scary. My left eye waters all the time, so I went to an eye doctor recently. He did some kind of procedure.
When I left the eye was still watering and now my nose was running too. I sent him a letter asking him not to call me for a follow up. I had enough.

BTW I hope you make 100. I'm just trying for 90.

I get the shots in my right eye every few weeks...It's ongoing for about three years now...It's normal in my experience to have a dark spot that moves with my eye movement, then goes away after a few hours......Ben

Yes, those just go with it. I still have a round spot this morning.

I had a eye exam last week and I was surprised (and disappointed) about how bad the vision in my left eye has become. My right eye is doing almost all of the work. So visit with surgeon next month and then play one eyed pirate during the summer with cataract replacement.

You won't regret it.

Age catches up to all of us. I wanted to go to my granddaughter's graduation but I will not fly and because as time passes my eyes are not up to driving over 1000 miles over roads I do not travel often. I have to get close to be able to read signs. That is no problem driving local because I know where I am going. I wonder how many years I have left to drive before I have to give it up. My MIL grave up at 85 because she hit a tree because she didn't see it. I can still see trees so I am still go to go for awhile yet:D

Be careful out there!!

As far as driving, reading, or recognizing a face, I have one good eye. Lately, my optometrist has gently hinted that at age 77, I might want to think about cataract surgery. I may have mentioned to him that I still see colors just fine, and that my few floaters don't bother me. He mentions the very high success rate on cataract surgery, and I believe him. I don't mention to him that he is certifiably insane if he thinks that I am going to have my one good eye cut up when I don't even have a problem that he is proposing to solve.

Status quo is great. Hope it keeps up.

Cataract surgery these days is almost a non-event. A Versed IV drip, a great laser light show, cheap sunglasses and you're out the door.

Had both mine done. I now have "secondary cataracts" so I get to do it again.

That Versed is awesome stuff.👍👀
