Today was my day for a shot in my left eye. I alternate eyes every two months. I don't like the shots but they have allowed me to keep very good vision. The Retina Specialist checked the film and said no signs of leakage anywhere.
So I get the shot and the nurse was as usual washing my eye out and said how are things looking. Things at that point are normally hazy but today there was a blank space, I could see nothing. You might say panic kind of set in and the nurse found the Doc and brought him back. He looked at my eye and said your blood pressure is low and is not getting blood back in the eye. It will be OK as soon as you get enough blood flow. That wasn't too reassuring because a few minutes had passed and still nothing.
The first thing that I saw was an eye full of those yellow flames that you see on racing cars and they were all moving. They gradually went away and I could see the outline of the open door. Then I started picking up the shapes of the nurse and my daughter and within about ten minutes it was about as normal as it gets right after a shot.
This morning I heard the alarm,a musical alarm that I enjoyed and went right back to sleep. I woke up with one hour until my daughter picked me up to go to the Doc. I grabbed the top of a blueberry muffin and topped it off with a blood pressure pill and a little water disregarding the rest of my medicine. My instructions now from my daughter are: When the alarm goes off get your butt up, eat breakfast, take your medicine and stay out of your chair so you will get ready. My daughter will also give me a call.
My eye shot has always been in the afternoon, today it was in the morning. Never again. I am so thankful that I am not seeing a blank space.
