SCBA's, Helmets in the shower, and bulletproof vests

I've worn armor daily since 1998. I used to be a slum lord. I've worn armor year round in all cases including VA summers.

After a while I got used to it. Took about a month or so. Then I really stopped noticing it all that much. Same as anything else, you get used to it. Put a fist full of coins in your shoes, and you'll eventually stop noticing those too.

I always bought better quality IIIA vests. By 1998 the better vests weren't too bad for resticting mobility or being as thick as previous generations of armor. A lot of agencies... what is the diplomatic way to put it... they're not buying the 800 to 1000 dollar vests and issuing them. Thus comfort is going to suffer.

I'm going to replace my current Second Chance IIIA - which is straight Kevlar 129 - and a notch below what I usually use soon for one of the Thor's guard Point Blanks that are Taser proof. Gotta love technology.

Weight on a good vest is really not much more than a steel 1911 and plenty of folks carry those.

Current generation armor carriers are treated to reduce the stink. Taking the carrier off and washing it periodically also helps.
