Scheels has gone off the deep end....

I bet they were CCI BR4's, right? What if I told you Scheels is paying twice what those primers cost at retail just two years ago?

The Scheels mentioned above in Colorado Springs also charges a PIF. What is a PIF you ask. It is not a fart from a mouse, it is a Public Improvement Fee that they are "Forced" to charge and give to the area developer to make what ever improvements need to be done on a freshly developed area. Not sure what they are.

If you order from the internet website and pickup at the store, you avoid the fee. Check your receipt.

Every time something like this happens people are adamant this time it’s different and things will never return to normal.

I was in a semi local gs recently and they had a decent stock of primers at $125/1000. This is a shop I've frequented for years and I've seen them sell things that are in short supply at reasonable prices when everyone else is through the roof.

I wouldn't automatically blame sky high shelf prices on the retailers.

Ammo and components have gone through the roof, no question. There are gougers to be sure, but the retailers' costs have also gone through the roof.

That said, our hobby is still relatively affordable. Try golfing, sailing etc. We had it cheap forever, things change, oh well. I'm still gonna grin, bear it, reload cast and shoot.

Put another way, I'm not paying doctor bills, legal fees, or alimony. I don't golf, drink, or go to bars and hit on 22 year olds. Life is still good !

I too am an aging Boomer, so I’ve seen several ups and downs in the market, but this one is worse and longer lasting than I recall. I’m glad I’ve got enough stuff stashed to do some shooting and reloading in my “Golden Years” but the long term picture sure doesn’t look promising. :(

I’m giving a little more thought to outings I would have jumped on without a second’s thought, and am feeding my shooting Jones with more 22s from my deeper stash of those.

At $.125/each primer I don't feel too bad paying $.37/rd for ammo dropped on my doorstep. I resent the $30+ "tax and insurance" that was added in but everybody is charging it now, otherwise "online ordering" was fixing to disappear. Life is good, indeed. Joe

I purchased some primers recently so I can still reload, even with higher priced primers, much cheaper than I can buy very expensive ammo for a 38 Special/357 Mag revolver - when it can be found. If I shot 9mm I wouldn't bother to reload at today's prices though.

I also recently purchased a S&W 617 22lr revolver so I can continue shooting and maintain my fun and gun handling skills. That 617 really is a nice firearm.

Take care, stay well and happy.

And yet another aging Boomer here and I agree with you 100%.
We have seen this at least X3 and the other anomalies did not last this long. I just waited it out and the supply came back. Prices went down but not completely to where they were a few months previously. What was really helpful was that all the hoarders discovered they had WAY over spent and behold there were household bills that needed paid. I made some great buys that I am still shooting and reloading from especially top line defense ammo.

A lot of people thought the world was ending and bought expensive carry rigs. As we all know a lot of folks get excited about doing this and then find the "armed" life style is too much effort. Needless to say I bought a number of high end holsters new in the bag a few months later...

But this time seems different. It's almost a malevolent undercurrent being feed politically and by a generation that says "OK, fine, I am down on one knee, head bowed, eyes cast down and open palm up...now give me my hand out so I can get the newest I-Phone..."

I am concerned that this "anomaly" may be more of a turning point and not as a return to sanity, reasonability and accountability...
