Science Knowledge Quiz

Simple explanation. With less air pressure at higher altitude water boils at a lower temperature because the heated molecules aren't held as tightly by the air pressure. The water never gets hotter than the temperature it boils at, therefore you are cooking at a lower temperature which, naturally, takes longer.
Another way to look at it is by considering how the cooling system in your car works.

By keeping it pressurized, the coolant doesn't boil. So, the higher the pressure, the more heat it takes to boil. Similarly, the lower the altitude, the higher the air pressure. Thus, water boils at a lower temp at higher altitudes. See, simple. ;)

It's what you do.......

I got a 12 and a 130 and I don't have a high school diploma.

I was kicked out of English Lit. But, I have never need to know Chaucer wrote Canterbury Tales, need to explain Beowulf or Macbeth.

It's what you do with your noodle that counts. A lot of people get through school with good grades and promptly forget everything they learned. Others take the little they get and do wonders with it. Neither high education or high IQ guarantees a person success or happiness.

Now about Chaucer and Macbeth. Those aren't constricted to school at any level. When you get out of school you have the rest of your life to study what you want, and not because it's 'required', which makes it more fun. I'd highly recommend Macbeth as a good read, as long as there are good footnotes explaining the meanings of old expressions. There is a lot about how peoples mind's work (or don't work) there. Man, school is just a place to START.:)

I wonder what the max score on the IQ test is? I'm certain I got all of the questions right, but my score was only 134. Did anyone get higher?

11 out of 12. What do I know about boiling water? It's hot!

130 on the other. I sure would like to know what I missed.

YMMV

My wife is one of the smartest people I've ever known, she is constantly bothered by the fact that I can read an article and get a personal satisfaction out of reading it but cannot give her "cliff notes" on what I read...I read it, I basically flush it. The same with school, I studied and retained what I needed to retain to pass the grade unless it was something I found interesting. I find it interesting that as many of you old guys did real well on the science test, I've never been considered slow but I never liked math and was real happy when Hewlett Packard came out with the pocket calculator...best piece of equipment I ever paid 100 bucks for.
I only got 10 of the 12 and the only reason I got the one of water boiling is that I remember how hard it was to hard boil an egg at high altitude.
I did score a 130 on the IQ test but as far as I'm concerned that was all common sense, you can't teach that.

11 of 12...sort of...It says I missed the boiling water one. I never answered that question as it never came up...dang 'puters...

A lot of smart (science) people on this forum, not me, 5 - 12. Could care less, didn't go to school for science, was good at it when it counted, and do pretty well for myself today. Science didn't pay for my houses, schooling, and don't use it one bit today. I wonder how many others did not do as well and did not post.

8_12 here. I hated science class. The teacher was as boring as watching paint dry, in the rain.

Beat you by four on the IQ test but you beat me on the first test. Guess were even? ;)

:D

138 here.

Wonder if it was timed?
Not enough questions for a 2 point spread between test takers.
Glad we're all smart enough we can sit around and solve all of the world's problems :D

It's JUST for fun...

I thought the test was worth taking and was fun to boot. No need to overanalyze it, IMHO.

It's not like anybody is claiming that getting 12/12 qualifies you for a PhD. :D

Your right, it's like a parlor game and about as meaningful. I love taking quizzes and checking myself. I'm not big on puzzles. No patience to tackle a hard one. You know, the humongous fields of daffodils and that stuff. And IQ tests don't measure performance, motivation, doggedness and numerous other qualities that comprise the whole of what intelligence is.

:D

I don't know if timed, but thought it was easier than the science test.
