Scripting your gun fight?

Scripting/choreographing a gunfight ? What was the Elder Von Moltke said ?-"No plan of operations survives first contact with the enemy." In developing Jeet Kune Do Bruce Lee emphasized fluidity and speed of reaction, if something doesn't work you can quickly move to something that does. Life is 90% Theater of the Improv, ad libbed, IMHO SD should be approached the same way. Skill training teaches you HOW to do things, you still need to learn what to do, size up situations.
IMHO Bullseye shooting, learning proper marksmanship is the basis for combat shooting. Ed McGiven emphasized that the sights ARE used in fast shooting-Jeff Cooper said the same thing, Bill Jordan noted that Charlie Askins became an advocate of the semiauto only AFTER hs gunfightng days were over.

Yes, in agreement with bullseye shooting and learning proper marksmanship as being a basis for combat shooting, but...I think very few have an interest in learning proper marksmanship these days; much too slow and time-consuming.

Know what you mean

Train like they happen at 25 yards in 1.5 seconds.

Just some of my thoughts.

Yours?

If it starts at 25 yards I'm running! Yes I know I might not have anywhere to go and should not assume it will be at close range - and I do fire my carry gun at 25 yards on occasion.

But I do admit to training mostly at 7 yards or shorter and usually don't include a reload. I do shoot weak hand as well when training.

That's about it for me.

I get great pleasure from getting safe, new shooters with a handgun to try prone, deliberate fire at 100 yards with a B27 target. It really builds grip, sight picture, trigger control skills and usually builds confidence fairly quickly.

We taught all that too. Also taught them to draw their weapon with their weak hand and to rack the slide with only one hand.

It was years and years ago that I was asked to do that in a class. I will never forget walking down to that target and seeing hits in center mass.

Did some ALICE training with the local Police about two months ago.....you can't predict or plan, just plan to react..... cus the other side gets a say and Mr. Murphy is always present!!!

Action beats reaction...... and reaction is a 4 step process.[never remember the 4 steps] Basically this;

observe
evaluate what you have observed
decide on what you will do
implement your reaction

Not to pee on anyone’s cornflakes, but if you think you can predict the totally unpredictable you’re kidding yourself. If you “know” a situation is going to be bad, a wise person would avoid that situation entirely. If you don’t “know” then you’ll have to deal with as it develops. An aggressor is never going to follow Your plan, as they have plans of their own (and likely have scouted the area far better than you have. Train with your weapon, a Lot! Be able to shoot and hit, quickly, at a variety of angles and a variety of ranges from point blank out to say 20-25 yards. Remain aware of your surroundings-always. Keep your eyes on a swivel (and not on your cellphone). Practice some more, a lot more. Marksmanship is a perishable skill. Use it or loose it. If you shoot 50 rds once a year, you’re kidding yourself if you think you’re ready to deal with an emergency.
