SD Triggers and Mag Extensions Coming Soon From Apex

I usually have the little lady with me so i don't get much practice in anymore. One of these days Im gonna get down there and practice quick shots at various targets.

Tried the extension with a 14 round Sigma magazine and the SD magazine tonight.
I experienced similar issues with the SD magazine being difficult to seat if the slide was closed, however with the Sigma mag its perfect all three extra rounds go in smoothly and it leaves a little wiggle room which makes seating the mag with the slide closed smooth as well and takes very little pressure.

If you look a the springs it appears the Sigma spring is a tad bit shorter and the legs on the follower seam to be a bit shorter as well.

Well now i don't feel so bad about being the only one experiencing it. Even after taking 2 coils out its still a little tight and racking the slide is still a bit rough. I have the extension on my "range" magazine that i usually only load5 rounds in so its not that big of a deal. It only seems to be a problem when i load all 3.

Why unhappy?

Question for the testers, have you installed the SD Carry/Duty spring kit that was sent with the Extension. Does it differ in any way from the older ones? I noticed that the trigger return spring has come pre filled with white lithium grease, I skipped that part on the install with my carry/duty kit that I purchased as I did not have any on hand.

Flork can you tell us the purpose of the lithium grease inside the trigger return spring?

Originally we filled the coils with grease because it helps attenuate recoil and dampen vibration as well as provide lubrication to the spring when in use. Our new springs come with a felt core which helps with the vibration dampening so grease is no longer necessary, however you could oil the felt in the spring if you wanted to make sure that the spring ran as smooth as possible.

still regretting not being fast enough on the draw with my email to test the extensions...im green with envy :( when can i purchase one since i cant test one? or can i purchase a test product?

Okay that’s what I was thinking it was for, just figured I would ask.

It thought it looked like a felt core but I didn’t look real close and assumed it was white grease.

I will switch out the old Carry duty kit for the new one to see if I can notice a difference.

That’s the way life works sometimes. I have never been selected for anything like this before and was shocked and honored that I was actually selected.

Us testers were told they would be released soon so I cannot give you any info beyond that.

I imagine they are waiting for feedback from the testers. I can’t speak for the other testers but I have not got any range time with it yet, my first opportunity will be this weekend and I will put 200 rounds downrange.

Same here, can't wait to finally "waste" some copper jacked lead. The felt trigger pull with the Carry/Duty spring kit is already better than the stock springs, but the eliminated over travel is what makes my trigger finger itch like crazy. ;):D

I expect the mag extension to function flawless. Totally awesome that I can pack my SD9VE with a total of 20 rounds (19+1).

21 if you use a SW9F 17 round mag as the host ;-)

I made it to the range today and put 100 Federal Champion and 50 Fiocchi though my SD9VE with your parts installed.

The magazine extension has 100% flawless!!! I was loading 19 in the mag and loading 1 into the chamber from my 2nd mag. 20 round per reload, what's not to like.

The trigger was amazing at the range!!! I am by no means a sharpshooter, but my shooting did improve greatly with this trigger over the stock trigger.

The spring kit (I already had it) is wear I hate to say I'm starting to see problems. I had some light strikes (3 or 4). I need to get some more of my defense ammo (Remington UMC JHP (A friend gave me a good deal on a box of 100)) for testing to see how it works, but I hate to say I may have to go back to the stock striker spring.

You took the words straight from my mouth.

Now I need to find a SW9F mag!!!

Scott i came home today and found a xmas present for me....I'll put your product to the test this weekend! Thank for letting me test your awesome products and the bonus with the shirt and patches :)

Here are some closeup photos of the extension.
As you can see, it fits the magazine as if it were factory and uses a set screw rather than a separate floorplate catch like the factory magazine. The set screw goes behind the flange on the magazine rather than pressing against it, which makes for a stronger interface since the magazine flange is bordered on all sides.
The fit between the extension and magazine is superb, as is the fit between the extension and the grip frame of the handgun. As far as finish goes, the green anodization appears to be type III, but even if it is type II it still has a nice matte finish.

I wish I would have responded in time to get a prototype also.. :( Oh well, maybe next time..

Just left the gunsmith... We did 5 pulls with the new trigger (already had spring kit installed) and after 5 pulls my average was about 5lb 5 3/4oz. He actually seemed pretty shocked at how light it was. He's only ever handled stock SD's and he's a 1911 fanboy so to see such low numbers was impressive for him.

I dont have a trigger pull guage. I will stop by my local gunshop and see if they have one, But if I had to guess I would say mine was just north of 5 pounds in the 5.25 -5.5 range.

I will try to pick up a guage and test with the oem Springs and trigger, oem trigger and APEX springs, Apex trigger and oem springs and last but not least apex springs and apex trigger.

I wish I had better news to report but I experienced several Ftfeed stoppages today at the range with the magazine I had the Apex extension on.

I will put the extension on a different magazine for the next range session and see if anything changes.

No issues with the trigger or spring kit though.

ETA I am unable to get a trigger pull gauge locally so I will not be able to get the pull weights till later down the road.

Finally got a chance to install the spring kit, trigger, and mag extender.

I'll make a full report when i hit the range this saturday. Overall though dry firing i'm noticing its much lighter and the trigger safety is a plus.
