SD40 trigger pull

There is no way in hell I would carry a concealed SD gun with a 3.5 pound trigger. Period. Far too risky when adrenalin is pumping. Yeah, yeah, I know, "Keep your finger off the trigger till you're ready to fire." I still wouldn't take the chance. The 5.5 pound triggers on the Glocks I've owned were as light as I want to go. But I'm old and have considerably diminished sensitivity in my fingers, and I'm a DAO revolver guy.

-I polished the trigger bar assembly and installed the Apex spring kit in my SD40VE. Nice and smooth through the entire pull, but sits at 6# now, not the 8.5# it was. That's as light as I feel comfortable with using this pistol as my CCW.

Matt

I concur Matt, that is the idea weight for a SD weapon, its not a Wilson Combat or a schweeet Sig. The kit & polishing helps bigtime. Highly recommended....PS

I'm no gun smith. I did find that the length of the trigger pull/reset can be reduced. Just for fun, I jammed a tooth pick in front of the sear while at the range. It pushed the sear back about 2mm. It fired well with no issues, other than that the trigger pull/reset was shorter. Eventually the tooth pick jumped out....It sure was fun though. I imagine if an aftermarket sear can be machined out, it will be a hot seller!!

Hot seller, perhaps yes.

Safe, surely no.

if you shootin' low left get some of that finger off the bang button. just the pad of trigger finger goes there. this may help. my first outting at 10 yards all shots where center target and an inch or so high of the bullseye as it should be guns sighted at 25
yards from factory.

Penny Test

The striker impact on the breach face knocks the penny off my slide.

I can't even get a penny to stay on the slide of my SD9VE.

It either tips right off, or if I get it balanced, the slightest movement makes it roll right off.

I guess I just don't understand the test.

I installed the Apex 5.5# kit and did the recommended polishing. I wouldn't really want it any lighter. The first shot I took after installing the kit scared the **** out of me as I wasn't expecting it to arrive so soon! After that I was really happy.

The Self Defense trigger is kind of a built in safety since there is no external safety. I like this feature in that when stuff is going down, you don't have to remember a safety, just point and shoot. And when adrenaline is rushing, you won't know how long that trigger pull is.

Just a little practice and the trigger gets easy. I, for one, don't mind the trigger at all. I like my SD40 VE more every time I take it out.

I agree with doublestack. The trigger makes perfect sense for self-defense. Can't really understand why so many people buy Sigmas or Sd's and complain about the trigger when there are so many other options out there in the same price range.

I bought a Walther PPX because CDNN has practically been giving them away for the last year. And it has a reputation as an accurate and reliable gun. But I would never consider using mine as a defense weapon because the trigger is too light for a gun without an external safety. So it's a great range toy, and will work fine in that role. I don't mind light triggers in SD/HD guns...as long as they have a manual safety.
