I'm having an issue with my apex trigger on my ad40 the gun is brand new anver been shot so I wanted to have the apex kit in it from the get go. I put the spring kit in and every thing worked fin but then came the trigger. I could not for the life of me get my role pin out so I just removed the trigger pin. I got the trigger bar on the trigger and put every thing back together. I racked the slide and the trigger got Hung up on the frame but still went all the way to the frame and there was no firing pin click. I then took the gun back apart and sanded down the trigger like I had seen in another post on here.well this got me a little headway I was able to get the gun to click but only after squeezing the **** out of the trigger and it wasn't consistent. So I sanded down some more now I have a click every 20 pulls of the trigger. I'm not sure if I took of to much material or to little but it seems that the problem is that the trigger bar isn't pushing the striker catch back far enough to release the striker. Does any one know of any thing that will fix this issue.

i unfortunately havent run into this issue and my apex trigger was $20 from a member and he did all the fitting mine was drop in and go. ive shot 300-400 since putting in and had no hiccups. best of luck hopefully someone will be able to help you out

Call Apex and explain, with pictures.
I sold Bio the trigger.
I fit it 5-6 times by filing it so I didn't take off too much.
Took 2-3 filings to get it to click, then 2-3 more to get it to click every time.
Mine started out releasing the striker pin with a real, real hard squeeze.
It's possible you're filing wrong...

I used a pin punch through the sear housing to fit the trigger.
It was easier then pounding the pin in and out...

Less is more. You cannot put material back on, but you can take more off.
Go slow...

Also, make sure you're squeezing the safety blade when you file, you may want to tape it.
You DO NOT want to file that part as it could render the external/drop safety useless.

This response isn't going to help you, and I hope it doesn't come across as kicking a man while he's down, but this is exactly the reason that I don't mess with the fire control group on these guns. It's up to each man what he does with his guns, of course, but personally, if I wanted a lighter/better trigger, I'd buy a different gun. Also, doing these kinds of modifications can void the warranty on the gun.

Having said that, and hopefully giving no offense, I do hope you get it sorted out.

Well I didn't file I used really fine sand paper maybe I haven't taken enough off. And I have been sanding with the safety pulled so as not to damage it. Could you post a picture of what you did to the trigger?

Yeah, you need a file. Sandpaper, especially fine, would take forever to get the job done. There a few reference pictures if you search. I don't have the trigger, let alone the gun anymore.

Brand new never been fired you say

I just don't understand why so many people want to change thier triggers with out firing these guns first. I think all the negative post about the trigger have brainwashed people into thinking it must be done. The trigger is just what its suppose to be. Long and heavy, lets remember it is a sd gun without a safty. To anyone that buys an sd, do yourself a favor. Take it to the range and run 100 rounds through it before you make any mods. I mean if you took your car to the shop and the mechanic said you needed a new engine, before you told him you were there for an oil change. Would you tell him to replace it

Leave the SD40 as it is. In mine I only changed the rod and spring for the 17lb stainless steel Galloway but my gunsmith told me to leave the trigger alone because it will be smoothing itself with time.

I bought the SD40VE so I could do a trigger job on it. In fact, I hardly ever buy gun without expecting to do some work on it. I have never found a perfect gun ('course, I don't buy expensive). I almost always buy a gun because I think I can improve on it with a little work.
So you guys who keep telling us not to mess with our guns (because we are not happy with the way they are from the factory) need to understand that there can be improvements made. Some of us can do the improvements easily hile others, may have to work hard at them. So I say, if you are not happy with the way your gun is, get rid of it or make it better.

That's certainly your right. Some people like to tinker with and "improve" their guns to their own specs. Nothing wrong with that, if that is your intent.

I don't think most here are saying that, at least I'm not...you should know going in what the trigger is like. Unless as stated above your intent is to modify it, if you simply want a gun with a "better" trigger from the outset, then you'd be better off buying a different gun. Sometimes these mods make more problems than they solve, and they can void the warranty.

That of course is only my opinion, which with $2 might get you a cup of coffee at Denny's (definitely not Starbucks.)

I am not saying not to work on your gun. I have plenty of guns that i have made mods on over the years. I am saying take it to the range, see hear and feel how it functions before you decide what mods you need to make.

I was going to mod the gun from the get go. I traded my sw40ve for the SD plus 200 bucks at a LGS I'll have to pick up some small files and try again.

well the nightmare is over i had a few problems going on. i called apex and as it turned out i didn't push the pin for the trigger bar in far enough and the trigger was flexing and not pulling the trigger bar forward enough. this also led me to find that the pin in the trigger wasn't long enough so i put the pin from the old trigger in the new trigger.i also had to file down the trigger like mentioned before. im still working on the trigger to get the break where i want it but over all im pleased. ive noticed that when i pull the trigger my sights longer pull to the right or push to the left when i squeeze the trigger.

I have an SD40 and a Sigma 9 no problems with either gun or trigger they have worked out fine.I don't mess with a gun unless their is a problem and never have had any with my S&W guns.If you want a shorter trigger pull buy a Glock I had 2 of them and they were fine guns but I like my 2 S&W's just as much.

wierd, i do know some guns differ but, i have apex trigger in my sd9ve and sd40ve and both went in without any type of modifications. At the same time, i do have the spring kit in each of the handguns aswell.

Regarding the sd40ve

I'm new to this so any one out there have a sd40ve or sd9ve but the california version I upgraded my trigger to it fairly easy and spring kit but I ran Into a problem I seem to be having trouble with the sear block parts I can't seem to remember how the parts go if anyone has it a pic of how the sear block should look fully assembled would be great thanks

I seen all those vids it's just that I have the california version so I wanted know if anyone has the california version and could send me pics of the sear block how it's suppose too look because jn the california version their is extra parts on the sear block and I not to sure if I have it set up right
