So I still love my 1st Smith. But....after only 150 rounds I noticed lines in the frame. They look like stress fractures. One on each side. I had my local gun guy look at it and he recommended sending the gun back to Smith. I hope these are not cracks. They are hard to see. But what makes me think its a crack is that the lines continue from the side of the frame all the up and over top of the frame rail. What do you all think?

well...it's one of two things my friend. either it's simply from molding the polymer...or we both have cracked guns...it appears that I have the EXACT same "marks" on my SD40 VE. i can see from your pics that you also have a "mark" on your trigger guard, which I have as well. I hope it's just manufacturing blemishes...if not...I guess we'll both be sending our first Smith's back... :-/

The exact same marks? Can you post a pic? Exact same, makes me think its molding marks. I hope that's what it is. Though stress fractures could be similar, they wouldn't be the same.

yeah...they seem to be pretty much exactly the same...I took some pics with my iPhone...the pics are "ok" and you can see the "marks" if you look closely...if I need to I'll break out my real camera...lol

no problem man! hopefully a few other members will let us know if their firearms have the same "marks" to lay it to rest for sure.

Molding marks. No big deal. You can always call them and ship it back for a piece of mind.

Im not seeing those marks on mine, but they are probably mold issues. Smith may have noticed this and changed their molds already. Mine is a little dirtier (700 rds through it now) but i dont see those marks on mine. (also hard to see due to traction grips)

Hello All, I'm a proud new owner of an SD40VE. Mine has exactly the same marks. Casting marks, I'm sure. I have only put 50 rounds through mine. the marks are much more faint that those in the pics, but they are there.

you have them chevythunder...they are diagonal marks from the front of the trigger pin to the slide rail and the front of the trigger guard "wrapping" around

These are all pictures of without the shadow of a doubt molding marks from the frame being cast. There is zero reason for worry over this. If one were to try and send this in for S&W to look at you would get your guns sent back with nothing changed.

well that's a relief...I suspected it was simply molding defects...but you can't be too careful with firearms. thanks everyone!

After reading this thread I checked my SD9VE, and have the same marks. I have 200 rounds through it. I also just purchased the SD40VE about an hour ago brand new, and it has the exact same marks and that gun has never been fired(except for the factory shot). Thanks though for taking the time to point it out "cause you just never know.

I noticed the same marks in the same areas on my SD9VE that only had 500 rounds through it. I thought that they were cracks too and was worried. Thank y'all for putting my mind at ease.
